Hey everyone! Sorry for the delayed upload but stuff should come out sooner from this point on. For now, though I've got a shorter story for you clocking in at 1,500 words.
I'd like to thank

A U-2 gets shot down over Soviet territory, and a rather unique recovery team awaits him.
A trio of Soviet surface to air missiles punched through the clouds, racing upwards towards an American U-2 spy plane. Its pilot, seeing the danger, banked his unwieldy plane to the left in a futile attempt to evade the oncoming missiles, but it was in vain. The first couple of missiles flew by harmlessly but the final missile split his fuselage in half, leaving the plane to fall to the earth uncontrollably.
Panicking, he ejected from the disabled jet, and after falling for a time. His parachute automatically deployed. As he gently fell towards the ground, he thought about what awaited him, a platoon of Russian soldiers, maybe even attack helicopters, and if that didn't get him, perhaps the wilderness would. Either way, the man was terrified of his impending eventuality.
Sonya brought a pair of oversized binoculars to her eyes and scanned the sky for signs that any of the missiles launched actually hit the American jet, but given the extensive cloud cover, it seems as if the sky itself is denying her what she seeks.
"You won't be able to see much up there, lieutenant." Said a skeptical Yuri while operating the SAM battery.
Sonya partially ignored him and continued looking through her binoculars but responded nonetheless. "And how do you know that, Sargent?"
"That American jet flies at the edge of space, and although you're taller than most, I don't think that makes the difference."
Sonya chuckled and let her binoculars hang from her neck. She took one last look at the sky with her naked eye before relenting and plopping her enormous body down beside the Sargent.
Yuri could see the dissatisfied look in her eye and opted to try and lift her mood. "Don't worry, Sonya, it gave me positives for hits on all three missiles. We should see it breach the clouds soon enough."
Sonya looked down at Yrui with her ears folded. "It's just… I don't want to hurt the pilot."
Yuri looked up at his enormous ninety-foot tall officer with utter disbelief, completely taken aback by Sonya's near-complete lack of aggression. He only managed to facepalm and run his hand down his face in disappointment.
Sonya detected her Sargent's disdain and tried to lower her head to reattain his gaze. With her chin against the frozen ground, she responded. "It's not that I don't want to defeat all of our enemies… But…"
Sonya stuttered for a moment giving Yuri a chance to fill in her gaps. "But you're incapable of being a soldier?"
Sonya bumped him with her wet nose, forcing him to look up at the now disgruntled giant. "I carried the SA-2s out here! All you did was press a button!"
Yuri threw up his arms in the air. "You're ridiculous! Like some kind of puppy!"
Sonya staunchly crossed her arm, and as she began to respond, another man interrupted the bickering between the pair.
The man saluted his superiors and relayed his information. "We've spotted the American jet and its pilot."
Any playfulness between Yuri and Sonya quickly vanished.
Sonya asked. "Where are they?"
"Still falling from the sky." Yuri gave the man a flat look while Sonya tilted her head. Realizing his error, the subordinate soldier pointed skywards at a high angle. The two looked to where he pointed and spotted the still falling remains of the U-2 against distant clouds.
"Do you have any idea where the pilot will land?" Asked Yuri, still watching the jet fall from the sky.
"Give or take five kilometers south of our position."
Yuri nodded and began giving orders to his underling. "Send a team to recov-"
Sonya jumped to her feet, "I'll handle it!"
"You don't even speak English!"
Sonya unbuttoned her overcoat and threw it to the ground, revealing most of her fluffy body. "I don't need to speak English. Fluff is a universal language! I'm sure my new American friend will understand."
Before he could stop her, Sonya began jogging south, trying to get a headstart on the rest of her forces. The rest of her men broke out into laughter after seeing their superior's behavior. Yuri turned back to face his men. "Grab your rifles, and follow the deforestation of our benevolent lieutenant."
Sonya stopped at what appeared to be the U-2's crash sight, now nothing more than a pile of twisted metal. Just as the soldier said, it was about five kilometers away from the battery she was at moments ago. Soon enough, the pilot and his parachute broke out from the clouds with a thousand feet or so between him and where she stood. With his current descent path, he would glide right into her awaiting arms.
Realizing this, the pilot started kicking his legs in a desperate attempt to gain distance between him and the giant husky waiting below. However, it was a futile effort.
After a few minutes of gleeful anticipation, Sonya gently plucked her new American pal out of the air. Her curved tail became a blur of excitement with the man now secured in her grasp. However, just before she can begin introductions, the still attached parachute assaulted her face in the defense of its pilot.
In retaliation, she upholstered her knife and moved to do away with the offending cloth's strings. Seeing the massive blade growing closer the American practically screams and starts flailing in her grasp, fearing that he's about to be skewered by the giant. However, after throwing the parachute to the ground and holstering her weapon, he calmed down a bit.
Sonya sheathed her knife and brought her now free hand in to pet her captive. "Sorry, little one, I meant no harm."
No response came from the still terrified American. Albeit Sonya expected it, she knew the only way to reach common ground was warm affection. Sonya then brought her muzzle down and nuzzled him, her wet nose and warm sniffing began to properly calm the pilot, further increasing the speed of Sonya’s tail.
Pleased with her progress thus far, she began contemplating rubbing him up against her soft mane of neck fluff. In the same instance, Yuri and the rest of Sonya's men arrived behind her.
"I told you to wait. He won't understand a word you're saying." Said a condescending Yuri.
Sonya acknowledged his presence with a flick of the ear and continued to dote over her new friend. "I’m actually doing quite well. But do tell him I want to keep him warm and snuggle him up like my pup!"
Yuri smiled mischievously. "Of course, lieutenant." Yuri then walked around to Sonya's left side and called out to the American in her grasp. "Hey American, big girl wants to gobble you up like a… Big Mac."
Hearing this, the pilot interpreted her previous nosings as a mere taste test and started yelling and kicking again.
Sonya recoiled at his reaction, not understanding why the pilot reacted so harshly to her request. "What did you tell him, Yuri?"
Yuri shrugged. "Exactly what you told me, lieutenant. He doesn't want to cuddle."
With a dejected sigh, Soyna sighed and put the American down beside the soldiers accompanying her. Free from the huskie's grasp, he ran into the arms of one of the Soviet soldiers. Without requiring restraints, the pilot and soldiers began a march back to the SAM emplacement.
Yuri began heading in that direction as well, expecting Sonya to follow behind him. But after a few seconds of hearing no earth-shaking footsteps, he turned around to access the meaning of her delay.
He smirked when he saw her looking at him displeased. “I was right you know, you couldn’t kill a fly all you managed to do was terrify some poor capitalist.”
Sonya raised an eyebrow. "You know I can smell when you're lying, Sergeant." She took a few steps forward and squatted down, bringing her muzzle eye level with her insubordinate sergeant. "And you lied about my intentions with the pilot."
Yuri shrugged. "I'd sooner lie than let our men see you act like a dog."
Sonya shook her head. "You need to learn a little compassion, Yuri. When we get back to base, you get to be my pow for a little while."
"And just what makes you think I'll let you do that?" Said Yuri angrily.
Sonya snorted, blowing hot air into Yuri's defiant face. "I don't need you to let me. Go ahead and run around. You think I'm a big puppy, so let me chase you like a ball, little man."
With that, Sonya turned around and gathered the remains of the U-2 that she could carry though with the plane being fragmented by the crash she couldn’t efficiently grab the smallest pieces. With a frustrated growl, she grabbed whatever wouldn’t fall apart in her hands before stepping over Yuri and marching off to catch up with the other soldiers. The Sargent only shook his head. “My father was right, I should have joined the Navy."
