Continuing the Emma And Ash sketchbook.
Ash finds the place to invoke the demon of light for this underworld (there are many underworlds all over the world) and summons it with the ancient language and interface device.
Rough dialouge :

The experiment on your two planets has been canceled. A general amnesty for been proposed for the descendants of genetic engineering from 1200 years go, conditional on recognition of the current Homeworld Government and military service. We are now at war and require resources, troops with augmented strength, and pilots with augmented vision reaction time. Ships are en-route - ETA 124 years. Messages for social restructuring and science datum en rout.

more to the dialogue and story in this scene - such as the animal-like altered dna humans were exiled to two planets by the One True Form Party - the the animal-like altered dna humans were just a fringe movement a thousand or so years ago, but the post-humanists who began incorporating quantum computers and radio and wifi etc into not just their brains but their bodies and DNA. Earth's empire and the Post-Humanist worlds cut off relations. And Earth then exiled all people with genetic alteration as the One True Form party rose to power.
People and families who had altered their DNA to have desirable traits of other Earth based life were rounded up and exiled to two planets at the edge of Human space...as part of an experiment. The Post-Humanists colonies had lost all sense of identification with Earth within a few decades - so it wasn't only DNA that the One True Form Party wanted to control - it was sociology, a sense of history, language, etc - so - since they were exiling these few million human-animal hybrids why not use them in an experiment to see if a version of Earth's history could be be re-invented for a colony - gradually release social and scientific breakthrough as "revelations". And then have a planet on the other side of the star in which the exiles were given no guidance, left feral. All the initial exiles were given nano-tech injections which fried their higher brain functions and memories but left theit offspring with a normal (or augmented) IQ. On the "Earth Reconstruction" planet there were "revelations" that re-created some of old Earth's sociology and science etc while the feral planet was left alone as a control to the experiment.

Slightly later entry in sketchbook. i had been doing new stuff there around 2015 - this from early 2016. i had already plotted this scene '05 or earlier. Reworked early 2018 and ink finished October 2018.

At this point the graphic novel goes into a few pages of dialogue as to the ancient tech fails and malfunctions and eventually falls into a more steady self-destruct sequence - leading to Dellin's crew and Emma and Ash all fleeing for the airship in the caldera as the earthquakes begin.
It is to the front lines of this war that Raffa's Vincent and Tia Fel's Jonathan are sent - and the girls find their way onto a warship heading there to try o rescue their new spouses ... An ancient race that evolved with photosynthesis and regards all mammals, reptiles, etc that evolved eating plants as being a parasitic infestation - to be eliminated.
