Ironically, that's why the developer of the format prefers to use that pronunciation. In fact, in the early days, they said "Choosy developers choose GIF".

Of course, there's also a third option: Peonouncing each letter seperately, making it a jee-ai-eff.

It always seemed "natural" to me to say "jif". Then again, I park my car in a RAMP, put ketchup on my hot dogs and pineapple on my pizzas. So, what do I know?

Look, it's pronoucned 'Gif', just like it's pronounced 'Wind' not 'Wind', 'Lead' not 'Lead' and 'country' not 'world' (America...)

Y'know, I can't remember the last time I saw "catsup" in the supermarket. Heh... That was flagged as a misspelled word.

Even Hunts calls it Ketchup now.

But the fellow who called it a frappe should have called the other stuff "tonic." Very New England that. Actually, tonic has fallen out of common usage in recent years for soda pop. But I still remember it.
