SAW Furry Poster
A few days ago around here in germany the third SAW movie was released and a few friends of mine and myself went to special SAW-night at the local cinema, where they were showing all three parts in a row.
It was very exciting and I think despite all the blood and guts you get to see in the third movie, it is far better than the second, because it leaves the viewer without a real hint of what is going on throughout the movie.
So I decided to make some picture which was connected to these films and I did a furry version of the poster for the first one, because I think it is still the best.
I really like how it turned out and I hope you think so too, as usual comments are very much appreciated.

I LOVE the idea of man/furry against machine (even if it was a psyco that put them there). I wanted to draw up a few of my saw trap ideas but I don't think my fans would appreciate seeing my darker side. So here's one I came up with after seeing some teens throw a bag of rocks into a nearby house window for kicks.

Hello Mr. John Doe. I want to play a game...
For years you have wasted your young adult life by taking pleasure in the needless destruction of other people's hard earned possessions. In your small mind the short term thrill of destruction seems an adequate compensation for your lack of manhood. Lets see just how far your destructive nature will take you today.
Your neck is fastened to this wall with a chain and lock. Above you is a rope tied to a large cinder block. In one minute the block will swing down reducing your head to a bloody pulp. But this needless destruction can be prevented...
In front of you is another large cinder block on a pedestal. The piano wire tied tightly around your genitals is also tied to this block under which is the key to your neck chain. The wire is 6 feet long. The hole in the floor beneath the block drops 10 feet. You will need both hands to hold the block but you will need one hand to use the key.
Let the game begin...

Yeah I understand your concern. I'm not much of a senseless blood and gore fan myself (if that makes sense as being a saw fan...) but I always liked the idea of that contraptions that actually made an escape possible, even though it would be very painful.
Your idea is really interesting, though I guess the loss of genitalia would be pretty fatal for someone, if not treated quickly - even if he manages to escape. Of course, one could argue that the same counts for the main trap of Saw 1 with cutting off your own foot. But maybe that idea coul be transformed into something similar but less drastic.

My idea for a trap was as following:
Hello ... I want to play a game,
as the owner of a respectable casino in the city, you have made a lot of money by the weaknesses and addictions of others. You have granted loans and offers to people, who you were certain that they would not be able to pay you back. Your greed and lack of empathy have consumed you, letting you cherish money more than life itself. Tonight you will show me, if you are still capable of having mercy or...if you really are a one-armed bandit.
The device attached to your right arm, both holds the key to your salvation aswell as the tool for your punishment. Feel the key in your palm, it will unlock the door and will let you escape. But dont try to pull your arm out: the blades attached to the opening of the box will cut off your arm, if you are not careful. To escape, you will have to find remote controls, hidden somewhere in this room. There are five in total, but only one will deactivate the lock for your arm. This time, the odds are against you.
Life or die, make your choice...

Still, it's nice to see someone else being a fan of the film series. I dont defend it much against naysayers though. I always tend to go "It's okay to not like any of the sequels, but the first saw film is a must see, even only because of the great ending".
I understand when people have a problem with the gore and torture and stuff, but for me, most of the thrill comes from the story itself, the whole "what would I do if I was in that situation" concept and also the fact that it has a realistic setting, where no monsters or ghosts lure in the shadows to provide a jump scare at any moment, just to keep the audience's attention.
Though even I'm a big saw fan, I'm not a fan of the Hostel films. I havent even seen one of them, since for me, just senseless gore and perversion of it (like bathing in blood) is not enough to make me want to watch a film. With saw, you have at least some kind of irony and twisted moral behind it.

That is interesting. I can't watch the Hostile films myself. The machine traps are fascinating and a bit abstract but man against man for the delight of pure torture is too disturbing. Another aspect of gore films is teh effects. I love gore effects (you may remember the pic I posted at haloween of me with an axe in my face)
That of course is another point. Pain and torture combined with sexual pleasure is too much for my taste. Plus, even with gore effects you can be creative with getting them realistic and not too cartoonish. When I saw Freddy vs. Jason as one of the more oldschool types of horror films, I really had to pull myself together in somes scenes, because it came about just so extremely goofy, that it really wasnt scary or frightening anymore.
With saw on the other hand, they always know how to make the traps interesting and horrifying. For example the carousel trap in saw 6. (look for a youtube clip if you havent seen the film) has the device where a character has to push a button that will save a victim, but also pushes a spike through his hand. This kind of injury, is for me much more frightening, than tearing off limbs with a chainsaw, because you know from household accidents, how painful it can be to hurt your hands and feet.
But also on a grand scale, Saw manages to pull off gore scenes very well. In the final scenes of Saw 6 they did a trap with acid. Now you could just show someone being sprayed on with acid and then turning into a bloody mess, but they actually decided to make it differently and I was really surprised when I first saw it.
But just to clear things up: which of the movies have you seen already? ^^ I dont want to spoiler anything so I'm just asking.

I agree that relatable injuries such as being cut with a blade or getting your hands punchured are more relatable than the more extreme killings like getting your head opened up by a reverse bear trap.
I did see all the films. The pole through teh brain in 6 was nasty and that acid injection was cool! It was a shame actually since I thought he already learned his lesson by the end of the film. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done with his life after that experience.

Ah, good to know. ^^ I had actually some people telling me, that they thought the series was interesting over the first few films, but lost interest after part 3 or so.
Yeah, the films always get your hopes up that someone might even survive, even though the formula stays the same, meaning that the main character dies - always. ^^
Someone actually mentioned a bit of disappointment over the closing scene, with Hoffmann having his face ripped open, and suggested a better ending: In that one he wouldnt be able to get out of the trap and the last scene of the film would have him, looking up and screaming and then the reverse bear trap rips his head open.
And I have to admit, that would have been completely awesome, since we would have seen the trap actually working this time, but the ending as it was in the movie was good nevertheless.
I'll continue to go and see the films in the future, even though I'm not sure how saw 7 will look in 3D. As said, I'm a big fan since Saw doesnt use any supernatural cliches to frighten you, but also its cool to see a horror franchise develop over the course of time. It's basically the same as the Halloween/Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, but at least Saw knows how to keep you intrigued by coming up with new story details and conclusions with every sequel - like the letter from saw 3 which was finally explained! ^^
