All now technically owned by Canadian National, these ex- Elgin, Joliet & Eastern, Exx-Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range SD9s (though never completely painted for the EJ&E), sit in a CN yard in Gary, Indiana. They work as occasional yard power and as transfer power between yards in the Gary area.

Sorta a shame these iron ore workhouses sit so much, but at least they still have their paint and are stlil operating :)

Yeah, they are still operating, to the best of my knowledge. Their replacements up in ore country are probably SD40-2s or the like. Maybe Dash-9s, as CN has a habit of putting just one or two on an ore train up heavy grades...

Are these units still alive? One of my little railfan dreams is to see one of these units saved with its original DM&IR paint, and sent to a museum to pull their trains.
