love love love! tankers scare the shit out of me in a way few things do: there's just an air of unstoppability about them. the biggest take 6 miles (!?) to stop at full speed. something so big and slow and ghastly powerful should be awe-inspiring, and i guess they inspire awe, but nothing flattering towards them like admiration. that said, these pictures imbue them with an incredible majesty and romance far beyond anything that, to me, they possess and they (the pictures) in that sense, remind me of "The Big Ship" by Brian Eno, which functions in the same way: a beautiful representation of something i normally find offensive and frightening.

I'm with you man. I find them beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Horribly Beauty or Dreadful Awe.. something like that. I always find it interesting when you can use beauty in a problematic way with the subject matter. Like really gorgeous representations of tragedy.. (Sabastio Salgado's photographs of gold miners http://www.greenenergyinvestors.com.....showtopic=2831, or Susan Suntags book "Regarding the pain of others")

Stunning stuff! The backgrounds are beautiful, while the tankers give off an unnerving feel to it. Very nice!
