Emmas Notes On Western Native Alphabets - old art
Concluding the Emma ans Ash sketchbook for now.
The 2nd to last most boring page in the book, and 2nd to last page in the book. The last page is the most boring - written rough notes on ch 1, and on the back of that page some notes on how to pace conflict and story development.
The ability to read does play a role in the story - the northern wolf clan had some who escaped the nanotech lobotomy of the original landing of exiles - so they can read/speak the human language of the underworld. These are not that language, but rather the local coyote, puma, bear, lynx, and bob-cat languages.
i taught myself Sanskrit in my teens as well as an aborted attempt to learn Mandarin (dropped out - i was also doing practice to develop a photographic memory at the time - was walking on the street and was trying to remember the Mandarin word for something, so called up the recent vocabulary sheet in my mind and started reading down the columns of text - no pages, just visualization as i was walking - found the word and was pleased ... and then i realized what i had just done and it completely freaked me out!! Stopped doing the photographic memory exercises, didn't go to classes for a few day, etc ), took courses in Tibetan in my twenties, started self-learning Japanese in my thirties but family and work etc and me being undisciplined...feh. Later on learned Runes, eyc etc. - Anyhoo - i have some familiarity with different writing systems (the Korean writing is incredible!) - yeah, was having fun and writting is part of the story.
Just completing posting the currently (old) finished pages. Pencil from '07ish???? ink from '15 or '16.

As someone who has been fascinated with various forms of human language since being a young boy, I foung this very interesting. One of the scripts in the middle resembles Georgian letters.
I have also tried to invent a conlang or two but my poor brain would get dizzy and freaked out from doing such stuff.
