Actually I'd be more inclined to doubt her species, rather than her gender. Wolves are solidly built, but they don't always look it when they move about. They also tend to have more than one expression. Out of interest, when was the last time you drew a were that didn't look like it wanted to bite somone's head off? :)
Have you ever tried to draw a situation/pocture/pose a little more like this? With the were being the one above or the one below:

He was (from memory) a very happy wolf at the time. :)
