"We all talk about death when we're young as though each of us are mighty philosophers. We think we understand because we see it second, or even third hand. We all pretend, but none of us can really claim to, until..."
"Until we are forced to realize. No matter what power, no matter the strength, no matter the magic, we aren't the ones in control. We aren't the center of attention. We aren't each the protagonist of the world's story. Our actions have consequences which are more often than not negative. Our friends and family can and will leave us."
"And eventually, we will realize that there might not be another happy day left in our lives. That that's it. The personal story is over."
"It might be at that point we actually understand death. It isn't just the end, it is the loss of potential for joy -- or even respite."
"Understand that, and you understand a dread most fierce. A dread without consolation, or moral satisfaction. A dread that doesn't have an 'after.' A dread that simple is."
"It can break minds and wills, and none of us will believe that until it happens to us."

Just found this gem - really like the art and the quote. Also interesting quote - reminds me of Buddhist philosophy I read in that life is a punishment. The eternal death - nirvana- is peace. It brings one out of the suffering cycle of life. It's interesting how these valid philosophies radically differ.
