Chainmail, chainmaille, ringmail, maille, mail, and even more. There's plenty of terms for maille, used in various ways. The original term, simply 'mail', was used for other armors at the time as well, and leads to confusion when used on its own today.

I like the french word, maille, when writing it, since it helps distinguish it. I'm usually forced to use that bastard word, chainmail, when talking to people. (Chainmail ends up meaning chain-chain.)
