Space Siren
Space Siren's Song
Traveling years along our plight
And light years from our last port
Broken down and barely holding together
We drifted
The crew had started losing hope and tried to rally each other
We decided to look for any signs of life
Not civilization, not culture
Life
We were in over our heads
We were so far gone
So desperately lost
Grasping at straws for any chance
Of hope
Soon enough the engines began to clog
And we drifted
For what seemed a millennia
We drifted
When the tanks started to erode we decided
In an effort to preserve oxygen
We would no longer speak
No longer any cheerful good mornings,
No more pleasant good night and sweet dreams
Now, though we were here,
We were barely a presence
And we drifted
The silence encroaching on our psyche
And we drifted
Slower and slower and slower still
In maddening silence
We drifted
We drifted
Until one fatal night
While piloting our ship
A song came through the radio
At first it was little more than a crackle
But what came through was so beautiful
So stunningly beautiful
I knew
Without a shadow of a doubt
My mind had been lost to the cosmos
And it was so freeing and wonderful and beautiful
And the music was so calming
And beautiful
This song of serenity and subtlety
And one by one my crew trickled in
Entranced by the beauty of this song
And maybe just maybe I hadn’t gone crazy
And as the first mate and I looked at each other
We shared the same thought
LIFE
And what if it was more than life
What if it was civilization
Life in the comic sea
And not just life
But music
Music from across the void
Glorious, alluring, beautiful music
And we went
Kicked the engines as hard as we could and flew
Fearing no asteroid belt
Fearing no expanse
Following the voice
That beautiful voice
That song so alluring
Our crew would follow that song
Until the end of time
That glorious
Alluring
Beautiful
Song
