The Relic (by Kahlu)

The prince had thought the ancient artefact lost to the ages. The whole kingdom did, so I heard. After questing through the ancient temple in which it had been hidden, I couldn't be surprised about it. Even simply following the trail to uncover the ruin was enough of a trial, let alone working my way through its many dangers, bypassing its traps and fighting its ancient guardians. But I didn't become what I am by only tackling the easy challenges. Simply knowing I had conquered such a challenge would have been motivation enough to fight through it, let alone the treasure awaiting me at the end.
And so when I returned victorious, the relic in tow, the prince's reaction was understandable. He had been overjoyed, so it seemed, to see his precious treasure returned - such that he immediately announced a celebration to be held throughout his realm. One in my honour, no less. Of course, I am not normally one for large crowds, but in all honesty, I can't help but enjoy the attention, the praise, the thanks that come from a successful quest. I can't help it, it always makes me feel amazing.
Bards patrolled the streets, playing and singing. Vendors who lined the roads were only too happy to give me their wares at no charge. I admit, it was somewhat surreal seeing the theatre troupe recreate my triumph on stage - and the lead actor playing me seemed a little too bombastic - but it was an enjoyable change of pace.
That night, at the feast that had been held for me, amongst the sea of cheering faces and the swell of the music playing, I finally had a chance to speak with the prince himself. I leaned in close and whispered,
"So...what exactly is this relic, anyway?"

It was for sure a nice suprise to see that ancient relic once again.
What's inside of it, you ask? Well, let's say that more than a hero returned to the princedom that day ^^
Thank you so much for split this pic with me, I had that concept in mind for a long time, and surely your dragon fits it perfectly

Who knows? But if the relic was enough to bring a civilization to ruin, and have guardians protecting the relic from organic intruders; it may mean this relic is a relic of disaster... I would be more skeptical of the prince. "Arix, did you ever stop to question why a place would fall to ruin yet still be so well guarded by advanced technology?"
"Then what about the four chain links on each corner of the relic? Surely you know the relic chest is locked..."
*Something shiny hangs off the side of my fur dress, and a muffled jingling sound can be heard*

*Floats away slowly, which further muffles the jingling sound*
