The Virtual Boy is a 32-bit tabletop portable video game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. Released in 1995, it was marketed as the first console capable of displaying stereoscopic "3D" graphics. The player uses the console like a head-mounted display, placing the head against the eyepiece to see a red monochrome display. The games use a parallax effect to create the illusion of depth. Sales failed to meet targets, and Nintendo ceased distribution and game development in 1996, having released only 22 games for the system.
My backstory one year after I came back from high school from PA I was staying at my aunt house in NYC there I saw the Virtual Boy coming out at Toys 'R' Us and played the demo games on there Virtual Boy kiosk and no less then 3 mins my eyes was already in pain and gave me a head ack and thinking to my self (this is not good) and I knew from that day on this unit will crash and burn and it did less than a year later they try to sell this junk for $99. Then $50 buck. Then under $20 and one day at Clearance section at the bottom floor of Toys 'R' Us they where selling this thing for $7.99 and that when I pick it up as a goof saying out load Why The Hell Not and to this day its some how still works and yes I still cant play it for every longXD
There were only 14 games that ever came out in the US but the first 4 games that came out for this system on day one release was
Galactic Pinball
Mario's Tennis (packin)
Red Alarm
Teleroboxer

In more way then one. That V style stand. Turns out the little piece of plastic that holds it together is inferior and cracks apart under the strain. Not forgetting that the whole stand was unfriendly to adjusting to the needs of the player. (BlockBuster kiosk is vastly superior.) And the power...was batteries that connected to the controller. Way too easy to disconnect with a bump. (BlockBuster rental pack came with an A/C adapter. Not sure that was even an option, any other way.) Cartridges used a unique...and stupid...pin interface. Every other cart used contacts that could easily be cleaned. Even Nintendo had no idea how to clean those dirty dots. The internal vibrating mirrors also had a fail rate over time. I'm sure that Nintendo dumped this dud before it could grow too popular...and start mounting up lawsuits over claims about damaged eyesight in children.
I'd still like to see a portion of it's library get a modern remake. Full color and other upgrades. The whole system may have been as much a gimmick as the R.O.B. But it's hand full of gems should at least be saved with upgrades to the Switch. Come to think of it, that might actually make Red Alarm playable. Which tried to be a Star Fox style game. Alas...vector lines representing solid walls was nearly impossible to navigate, at times.
