Now, making up your own Digimon for a story is all well and good, but there also needs to be some established Digis if only to re-ground the story in the established if ever-changing canon...in that spirit, these were the three canon Rookie Digimon I chose to be heroes alongside my creations.
The perpetually-doomed Leomon is my favorite male-type Digimon (look at my fursona), but the pressure of having to kill him off in my story to continue the tradition is a bit of a downer...so imagine my joy at finding a SECOND Leomon Digivolution line! On the left is Leormon, last survivor of a village of feline Digis that were wiped out by my story's first "uber-villain," Raremon, and his horde of Gazimon raiders. Leormon ends up becoming the partner of my story's main candidate for "goggle boy/leader" and is only too hapy to help defend his new human friends from Raremon's horde...which ends up blowing up in his face big time.
Next up is Kokuwamon (I think that's the spelling, it's been a half a year), a nerdy little mecha-bug Digi who actually becomes the most vital "background" character in the story; his electrical powers (and willingness to sit and read books while serving as power generator) enable the lost humans to survive and, later, his true Ultimate form of Railmon serves as transportation for everyone. Of course, he also ends up destroying the heroes' homes when his human partner uses a Black Card to force him into Ultimate form to fight Mange's crew...resulting in a rampaging MetalTyrannomon.
And the last heroic canon Rookie is Gazimon. Yep, Gazimon...and not just any Gazimon, either; this particular one is the first "uber-villain," Raremon, after its defeat by the heroic Champion-levels. Wounded and in its In-Training form (the Black Cards force the Digimon who use them up two levels of viral Digivolution, so once raremon's was broken, it reverted to In-Training form), it was nursed back to Rookie level by the elderly woman who ends up as its partner.
Needless to say, Gazimon and Leormon get along like two cats on a fence since, Black Card or not, raremon was the reason Leormon's an "orphan." Their relationship gets even more complex, however, when Gazimon first digivolves into Tailmon...
