It's nice that you think this way, but there's no way that Bob would "waste" good food on captives. Same goes for Gharn. It's a safe bet to assume that they were fed the minimum amount of food to keep them from starving considerably or being unable to function. They're not exactly high on the priorities list of care when compared with the rest of the crew that they need to keep focused. That being said, any food that were given would probably be eaten pretty quickly, if not just for them being hungry, but out of fear that the dragons would remove or take the food that they were offered if they didn't eat it fast enough. The food could have already been stale or nearly spoiled too.
Agreed. The exploration of deeper behaviors impressed on man vs. the animal kingdom would be something that I would love to see explored in this universe. Most wolves and dragons seem to act like men vs. natural habitat. Maybe dragons are more tied to ancient laws and behaviors in their own lands the same goes with the wolves in their lands. Already, the "bah'raan" marking system was explored with Cobby. The dragons officially marked him as their "property." Although the nearest equivalent would be their slave, what Cobby explained it to mean was more like their "prize." Bob didn't seem to care for Gervic's existence at all on a deeper level; the fact that he comes from a historic institution (the Battlemage Guild) without extending this practice seems to imply it more.
That’s not what I was going for, but ok! I’m just stating a fact about wolves, and in a sense, dogs too! They eat like no tomorrow. And if you know how much wolves walk in an average day, plus the fact that meat is scarce in the winter, you understand why they eat very fast. Also, since there are some traits humans inherent from their ape ancestors, why not the same for anthro wolves
Bob put Vice Commander Laer in solitary confinement, and didn't give him anything to eat for 5 days by the time that Gervic found him. We've seen the cells dripping with water; Laer may have been able to scrape moisture off the walls to drink. But he definitely was not fed any decent meals. Considering Bob's treatment of wolves so far, it might have been Bob's intention to let Laer starve and die in prison while he worked on trying to finish his time travelling magic device. It's very possible that Gervic saved a lot of lives by freeing Laer and by killing Javecc.
The first time in a long time that Gervic's able to eat a real meal. Vlagg already updated everyone on the status of the war; the wolves retreated across the river and the dragons are too exhausted in manpower to continue the fight in the wolven lands. The wolves will no doubt fight harder there with the home field advantage. Bob already talked about how he disliked Vlagg's desire for ethical treatment of war prisoners. Vlagg respected Gervic greatly as an adversary. He even said he wanted to learn from Gervic. It makes sense that he wants to treat Gervic with some decency. He's got a lot of questions for Gervic to answer anyway. I'm sure that Vlagg isn't an idiot. He's probably already figured out that Gervic was partially or fully responsible for the pirate ship's destruction. I'm more interested in what Bob has done with the bodies of the fallen wolves; we know that Javecc mutilated one, but Cobby's body and Javecc's body are unaccounted for. Did Bob just throw the remains into a storage shed somewhere (or burn them), or will Vlagg allow Gervic to bury them? And is Vlagg smart enough to figure out how many wolves were originally captured without his knowledge? If that's the case, Vlagg's probably aware right now that Bob has lied to him about everything from the start. Including, perhaps, his allegiance to the Drakenheim kingdom? Vlagg definitely outranks Bob; Bob severely violated the chain of command's orders. Gervic's not just a prisoner set free, he's a political issue. If Gervic's story gets out to any of the wolves, they might never consider surrendering the dragons again during any battles in the future. . . Bob's actions might have put the greater war effort as a whole in a much worse position. Bob might be the first dragon ever to be tried for war crimes and for putting the lives of many fellow dragons in the future in greater danger.
They also forced him to lick the dirty floor. No doubt that Gervic was probably puking some or most of it out. I was wondering how Gervic managed to avoid deep sickness from his treatment by the dragons. If Bob was healing Gervic between torture sessions, he might have had a better chance. Considering that Bob's healing capabilities seem very well refined, it's more likely that Bob kept a close eye on Gervic's overall health; being too rough with him risks Gervic finding a way to take his own life, provided he was allowed an opportunity. Bob's the kind of guy to very much be upset if that was allowed to happen; he enjoys toying with people more than he does just torturing them. Gervic was definitely NOT Bob's first captive. Bob even said so during their first encounter.
