LUH KAH ROW
EDIT: LMFAO wow, I even say in this rant I don't hate or think of someone any less if they like Lucario AND I think it looks good in Fanart but people are still butthurt enough to block me 'cos of this? Dude, I am well aware many people rant about how much they hate pokemon I LOVE (I mean I have a soft spot for Trubbish of all pokemon, one that's been largely trashed every day since it's release) yet I don't seek them out to bitch lmao bye petty boys.
Ash/Satoshi has a Lucario in the anime and I've been half watching the new anime but GOD does it remind me
JUST
HOW
MUCH
I
HATE
LUCARIO
his design is SO FUCKING UGLY
I CAN'T stand it.
I mean godbless all you who can look past all it's wild flaws and love it, no disrespect to you this is just personal opinion.
BUT GOOD GOD LOOK AT IT.
IT DOESN'T HAVE A CANINE MUZZLE IT HAS A FUCKING NOSE
If it were a muzzle it's mouth'd go along it like other anthro-y canid pokemon do BUT IT DoESN'T AUGH every time it opens its damn mouth in the show I want to slap it shut.
AND WHAT PURPOSE DO THOSE DAMN DRIP THINGS SERVE ANYWAY!?!
It's like they forgot it's meant to be part steel type and stapled these things on?
WHERE DO THEY EVEN JOIN ON THE HEAD!?!
It just doesn't convey anything good
It also looks like it's wearing incredibly restricting socks making it's upper legs look like balloons with stilts jammed into them.
Lucario is a MESS and good lord is it a pokemon I hate.
Its inspirational sources could've lead to a FAR better design than this tripe which only makes me hate it more. An Anubis based/themed pokemon could've been so badass but then they just did this to it.
Again, no disrespect to anyone who likes this pokemon it's just one that I loathe beyond compare and it only looks great in fanart where a lot of these mistakes are actually fixed.
Fuck Lucario.

I see your 'trashed' pun
but yea Lucario is... a weird design. In my mind it looks cool from a distance but once you start to get into the details it just sorta goes downhill— the vanilla design anywho. Have seen lucario sonas that fix most of the issues, preeminently the nose issue

Hehehehe~
Yeah exactly what I think, many peoples designs and sonas fix the issue and actually look good but at the same time, that's fanart, it's canon look is just so... augh.
I think the main thing that really peeves me off is how amazing it could have been but then they just went "Nah" and it nose-dived into a really awkward look.

The only way I can really justify its typing and design is if I intepret it as a living fursuit. Yes, the head should come off.
Otherwise it's an excellent case of a poorly constructed pokemon that even goes against design rules and gets so much focus that normally overlooked issues become obvious.
That electric anthro cat feels like an odious encore really.

Bewear is more of a fursuit/mascot costume of a Pokemon complete with how it's pink head ends jarringly with it's black body (like it can come off).
Zeraora is a bit of an encore with the pokemon-fursuit idea but granted it has less of a "uniqueness" to it than Lucario has which is odd for me to say ekfjgkj
It is very much an example of "good idea, bad execution" it feels too much like a mishmash of thoughts and ideas which then made it's design get messed up. I mean, gosh, a Anubis/Jackal pokemon would be awesome but Lucario kinda... is a let down.

Yeah, like the main thing I hate about it is the waste of a perfectly good opportunity. Plus it can so easily be fixed by changing the mouth and making some parts of it not-so-jarring then it'd be a pokemon I don't hate but would have zero interest in aksjfgfk but yeah.
GOD Bogleech's review of Lucario just sums up all I hate about this 'mon and the flaws about it.
YEA His redesign is just *chef kiss* really brings back the Anubis theme to it and just hoo yes.

I honestly never understood its dual-typing of Fighting and STEEL. What friggin' part of it has ANYTHING to do with Steel? What, those friggin' spikes? Blow me a new one! It'd make FAR more sense for it to have a Psychic dual-typing like freaking MEDICHAM, since, ya know, Lucario's got the innate ability to detect aura. From what I can gather, I suppose those weird ol' dreadlocks are supposed to be, like, receptors/antennae, but if that's the case, shouldn't they be ON the head and not at the very back? Also, yeah, that friggin' Pinocchio nose...just...por quoi, Game Freak? See, if he's supposed to be a canine, then why not have the mouth, I dunno, ACTUALLY BE PART OF THE MUZZLE like the OTHER canine 'mons...like Houndoom, for instance!? Also, Lucario, let's talk about that figure, 'cause Barbie's lookin' at you like "Damn, boy, you need some MEAT on them bones!" XD
Pretty much the only major design cue I ever took from Lucario when designing my own alien race, the X'hyrok-aa, were those weird backhand & chest spikes. Course...on the X'hyrok-aa, I've yet to really get to why they're there; I've thought about them just being, like, a vestigial collection of tissue that can be safely removed? I dunno; they're definitely not actual spikes, though...though I have to admit they'd make for some interesting/amusing situations. X3

Yeah, it feels like it's a reach to call it inspired by Anubis, the only thing it really shares is the jackal stuff.
But yeah, it's typing feels dub and nonsensical, well, fighting I get but steel? The steel feels so out of nowhere...
The design is a mess, the mega improves it to be fair, but not enough for me to actually enjoy the 'mon. There are parts that just don't mesh well, bits that feel tacked on for "coolness" and the damn muzzle... I will NEVER get over the muzzle 'cos my god why?
