Here is a picture of my latest (and most successful) Dungeons and Dragons character, Arrk Ismenios, dragonborn paladin of the goddess Sarenrae.
Arrk is a large dragonborn paladin of Sarenrae, standing 6'7. He has bronze colored scales and gold-colored eyes. His tendril-like hair is kept short at around jaw-level. What is unusual about him is that he has a pair of ram-like horns on either side of his head, and his sharp fangs protrude a bit from his lower jaw, giving him a rather intimidating look about him.
He wears platemail armor with red and gold under armor, which he tries to keep clean and in good shape as a sign of respect to Sarenrae. He wields a massive fullblade, a special weapon he received from the dragonborn he met in Andoran before he set off on his journey. He still wears the shackles from his time as a slave, viewing them as a sign of his dishonor and feels that only when he regains his honor will the be removed. This is a personal hurdle for him, so he keeps them hidden, not wanting to drag others into this personal quest.
Arrk was born in the nation of Osirion in the coastal town of Totra along the Inner Sea. There he grew up in a small community of dragonborn who participated in the daily life of the town; Arrk started his profession as a stone mason.
Since there were not many dragonborn in Osirion, however, many feared that the dragonborn could pose a threat because of their racial pride and honor was misunderstood, even by the Ruby Prince. For fear they could cause trouble that could undermine his power, he ordered the capture of the dragonborn from the town, those that resisted were killed by the Risen Guard and the rest were sent into slavery.
Because of Arrk's 'demonic' appearance, the slave traders felt that the kingdom of Cheliax might show some interest in him, which they hoped would bring in a large sum for him, so plans were made to send the dragonborn across the sea to be sold off. The ship wouldn't reach Cheliax though as it was hit by a storm and was sent off course, crashing on the shores of Andoran, near the city of Augustana. The surviving members of the crew were rounded up by the militia as they round up the slaves and supplies; the surviving slaves were set free and brought into the city. It was there that Arrk met many other dragonborn and where he first heard of the divine orders there; Arrk wasn't very religious at the time, but hearing about the paladins interested him and he wanted to learn more. After spending some time with the others and learning about the paladins’ code of honor, their purpose and ideals, he started to feel that this was his true calling and he was taken in by the paladins to start his training, learning and training the martial arts as well as the other powers paladins gain, following under the goddess Sarenrae from his lost homeland.
At the age of twenty, his training was complete, and was already eager to head off to explore and adventure and he started to journey northward, hopeful that he will fulfill Sarenrae's purpose and to reclaim his lost honor. Though he hopes that some day he will return home and find the remainder of his family and clan, though he cannot forget what his homeland had done to him.
Though we are playing DnD 4th edition, the DM and the group all agreed to actually play in the Pathfinder setting since he had the newest material and it sounded like there could be grand adventures to be had. Since dragonborn aren't a common race in Pathfinder, the DM allowed me to play one, coming up with some ideas of how the dragonborn would be able to fit in the setting. Because of this, I have taken some liberties with his design that may not be 'official'.
Our heroic tier game has taken place in the area of Ustalav, a gothic setting where we have been fighting the evils of three witches who have been trying to awaken an ancient evil. Arrk has done well defending his party, and he already has had some great moments throwing himself from ledges to get at his enemies; I think he'll need to take the Scion of Arkoshia paragon path so he can earn his wings.
