These things in the background are called storefronts. Way back in the past, before there was the Internet and, more specifically Amazon, these things were awesome places where you could look at merchandise and support your local merchants.

Sad to say these sorts of scenes are slowly disappearing, and have been replaced by warehouses and malls.

For a moment, I could have sworn this was Main Street, Willimantic, Connecticut in the early 1980s. Then I realized that the names on the signs were unfamiliar and the buildings weren't in the same places. Just two American cities around the same era -- in a time long ago.
