These shadows wont leave me alone.
they have been chasing me quite a while now.
specially when Im down.
Tearing me down. they wont stop.
They're killing me from the inside.

I thought years of reading the stories of Stephen King had immunized me, but that picture is scary.
Makes me think of his story "The Dark Half" (Norwegian version: "Den andre siden").
But while on the subject of books and darkness:
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - from Frank Herbert's Dune serie.
In the series it was referred to as a ward against fear, and while it's only fictional it is well thought out.
Even today I find myself remembering it whenever things seems too scary/dark.
It doesn't stop the fear, but reduces some of it's strength and stops me from panicking due to the fear.
