Figured I would do another painting after all the celshading I've been doing lately, keep my skills sharp. I've always enjoyed Guyver, I'm currently enjoying the new series on DVD. Gregole was always the coolest. Too bad he get's his arms ripped off.
Gregole property of Yoshiki Takaya, painting by me.
done in Adobe PS CS2.

Another wonderful piece :]
I really like how you use the tools of your trade. Flash that looks perfectly cellshaded... Photoshop that looks like oil panting. Keep up the great work!
On a side note, I would love to see the Gargoyles in your style... assuming you watched the show. :)

But most of your evil creature look snuggable to some degree XD
What did Jessica Rabbit say? "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way."
Translation, I'm shameless when it comes to Gargoyles XD As if you couldn't tell by my icon. BTW, did you know there is a new cannon Gargoyles comic out? :3

This is an incredible picture in which nothing could possibly compare!
But I'm not sure if I enjoy the new series of Guyver. When I was twelve I watched the entire bio-booster series, and now years on I see this new series and I can't help but think its existence is totally pointless. The animation is poorer and the music isn't as good. I just think it adds nothing to the franchise.

Thanks alot. As for the new series, I'm with you on poorer animation, but then again no new anime series' now-aday's can compare to any of the old hand painted series' that were released in the 80's and early 90's; they were works of art. But I disagree about it adding nothing to the franchise; as it will be a truer and more comprehensive rendering of the original manga, from start to finish, the entire story...
this peice is awesome for several reasons. you can feel the warmth of the skin. there is a nice play between the crisp and the soft edges, they snap into focus where they need to and fade away into the backround when when they dont. the bacround is just as impresive to me as the figure, clouds are hard to do properly, some areas are very crisp and others fade away into nothing and i think you are able to capture that well. keep up the good work notos!
For some reason I found it easier to work with colors and shadows, also being able to sample color instantly while your working without switching tools, and customising your brushes. Painter probably can do all this now but I havnt used it aside from lineart in ver. 6.
Then again I'm a freak so who knows

As far as I know, recent Painter versions can do all that and more. I only have a pretty limited, old version - No custom brushes and the like for me. ): But even in that version you just have to hold down control and click to sample colours - No need to actually switch the tools. Hot-keys are your friend. ;P
Anyway, it's probably mainly about personal preferences. Painter and Photoshop are both damn powerful GFX packages.

I came back again for the memories.
I wonder why I had not favourited this until now.
*fixes*
(Also, even today, I still like the sharp lighting and the semi-amorphous colouring style, befitting the dark mood for this picture which also fits the series. I also noticed your skillful use of limited colours here. Gregole here looks rather realistic here. I also like his grooves horns.
...your art needed to be praised on its merits. I just felt compelled to do so here...)
