Yet more PaintChat. If you can't mess with people's heads, you can at least ruin their scribbles! HAR HAR.
I thought that fox was drawn by Skamp, but
thorn has refreshed my memory. Sometimes with PaintChat, it's hard to tell who draws what! IT'S UTTER CHAOS! AAARGH!

It's made by the same people who developed ShiPainter, a Java-based oekaki applet. You need a server that can run background Java processes to run it (like a chat room). It basicly has no admin features, so it's best to get together with people you know. It also has no flood fill (ugh).

Some of that has lost me, but I may be interested in trying this.
What exactly is oekaki? I've seen the term used for certain artist's work, like Nanimoose.
But basicly, it sounds like a message board you can watch people draw in while you're logged on? Do I (or one of the artists) need to own a server, or can these be found? Heck... Should I just seek answers on Wiki (or wiki-fur?)

Oekaki is like a forum, where each picture is a thread. You can post comments on a picture, or you can use this Java program to draw pictures. The whole draw of oekaki is that people post comments on your images, and everybody is restricted to using the same tool.
Oekaki boards usually have some kind of theme or skill level. My board is more relaxed and doesn't have much in the way of quality standards, though I urge people to be creative. Some boards are dominated by Pixel Gods and do a lot of old-skool graphics, which is awesome, of course.
Good oekaki boards have between 100-1000 members (mine has about 1,200). The majority of oekakis, though, are run by 14-year-olds who create them on a whim and then forget about them the next week.
I'm in the middle of writing my own oekaki system from scratch, which will hopefully correct most of the lame administration problems that plague existing boards, including the two I maintain right now, Wacintaki and Wax Poteto.
