It always depends if Mizue, Dat or Ktandoku retweet it or not. I've been getting a steady following over these but I'm still nowhere near their reach.

As of now it's not my most liked Beastars sketch but it's likes are growing. Folks are thirsty for Uncle Ibuki 😂

Side note, this tickles my fancy, one of the doods that followed me (french one no less), liked my crime boss Haru, cropped her and is using her smug face as an avatar. I love it and wish I had thought about it first 🤣

Yeah, in fact that was the point of these daily sketches I've been doing. Part of it was to regain some of my traditional skill and part was to develop the habit of drawing daily, even if I don't feel like it and it comes out crappy. It's helped a lot with my digital stuff as well, I've always been a firm believer of "if you're stuck at improving something, go do something else", like say if you want to improve the composition of your drawings, try taking photos for instance.

As for your sketches, good stuff, and a good way to get a feel for the characters (you should see my first attempts at Beastars characters, ooooh boy..😂 ).

Personally I don't like doing full frontal shots of character faces like you did (with the exception if it's for reference sheets or the like), because it makes it harder to get a sense of the character's volume making it harder to draw. Two things tho:

1) Always reference stuff (if you haven't). Don't expect to remember everything perfectly and exactly, no one does that, so don't be afraid to search for poses, images, moods, details, etc (I have an absurdly large image library). Personally I'm a very visual person so I'm always googling and searching on Pinterest for references and inspiration.

2) I can't really tell from the blue sketch, but it helps to make some guidelines when constructing the face so things are more or less aligned. That also helps with visualising the volume. For instance if I'm already at the rendering step (shading) and I'm having trouble understanding the volumes (like say the hair), I often draw a rough gridline on a layer on top of things to guide me.

And yeah, practice, practice, practice, whatever level of skill I achieved was because I've fought for it throughout the years! 😁

I am more somebody that can do good side shots of a characters of his face than by front shots.
