The base lineart (before skull-tweaks and spines were added) was graciously given to me to use for this purpose by
OliverFOX, from a commission I got from him some years back.
Since I redesigned my wyvern, I thought it'd be worth taking a look at his T.rex form as well. Originally I just left it at changing the noggin' a little, added iguana-like spines to the neck and overall added a dash of dragonesque detailing to it. But that was pretty much it, and he still lacked an actual reference for that form.
No more! A few weeks ago I began taking to painting up a new texture for him, and I really like how it looks!
While I was messing with things I felt like it'd be nice to have a 3D to help plan things out and stuff. I popped open the Primal Carnage T.rex into 3DCoat - since its head and jaws came closest to what I was imagining (plus its handsome and cute) and spent a few hours painting and stuff, and then a few hours trying to solve some problem (PC's rex is split into two texture maps. One for the head, one for the body. 3DCoat keeps sticking both sets onto a single image, which of course won't fly if I try and import those maps elsewhere.) eventually resorting to just rearranging them by hand.
So, then I had a better idea of the texture I wanted and how to paint it. I've been toying with the model a lot the past week, doing texture tweaks, enhancing the rig, and trying to get my rex's spines onto it. The uh, last one is experiencing some setbacks though.
Anyway, here's an early draft of the reference - there'll be more on it later, but I haven't uploaded here in a while and other things have been calling, so I'd like to share at least the side-view :D
