Holy crap, this is the most complicated model rig I've ever attempted to design. But I believe I've finally got the wings in a place were they can be used. Each feather has it's own bone and several constraints. Still not super happy with how the feathers look so I'll have to go back and fix them up a bit. Next Step will be the facial expressions :D

Those wings are looking much better! When do regular flights start? Only change I'd suggest is adding a few more feathers in the area where the joint is that you're flexing, so that it stays 'full' of feathers when it's moving around. Not sure if the render could handle that though.
Also those white knobby things where his eyes should be are creepy as hell.

Flights might start when I eventually get around to learning to animate. Though I'm getting worried about doing that too. I made this rig really complex to accommodate Mercurium's character.
as for some of the smaller gaps I think i'm going to try using a small amount of instanced particles. It shouldn't be too taxing on the system. Actually the model at the moment rendered pretty quickly. It's when I add any glow to the feathers is it possibly going to set my computer on fire.
I've thought the eye control sticks look creepy, and it's not much better when they're hidden. Unless I'm doing a full lighting render the eyes just appear milky white.
