Today, in "James tries doing something he's no used to do" special, we have a drawing with an attempt at soft shading. Looking at it there's still a lot of crunched shadows, but I think the highlights are at least softer than usual, what with the lack of reflective surfaces, or me finally ditching overlay for a normal layer fusion for the highlights.
