This beautiful gryphon is Sparrow! If she looks a little irritable, well, she usually is. Sparrow serves as the Flight Captain of a special operations unit of the Gryphon Legion. They undertake all sorts of dangerous tasks, espionage, seek and destroy missions, rescues... They're a great unit, but Sparrow's second in command, Blue Jay, can't help but ruffle her feathers the wrong way. Annoying his commander is basically Blue Jay's mission in life. To make matters worse, Sparrow's been sent to kill or capture a female dragon, and when things go badly for her unit, she finds herself forced to work with the dragon, or...

Sparrow, real name Avalek, is found in my ongoing serialized fantasy novel, Pledged in Blood. Though she's not the narrator, starting with Part Two she's definitely one of the main characters. She's a badass, and also a big bucket of grump. She's become one of my favorite characters in the story, and I'm thrilled to finally have art of her.
