In addition to the run of the mill Common Avanta, there are a few distinct subspecies. There are the Humpback and Fantail Avanta, to name a few. Humpback Avantas reside in frigid and polar regions, such as Canada, Alaska, Siberia, or the Zona Austral in Chile. Fantail Avantas live in arid regions, such as the Sahara, Australian, Gobi, and Arabian deserts. Avanta subspecies and Common Avantas do coexist, but its uncommon. All Avanta variants are capable of mating and producing offspring. However, its uncommon but not unheard of to see a subspecies leave their specific biome and come into contact with a different Avanta. The most extreme example of Avantan crossbreeding is the offspring of a Humpback and Fantail Avanta pair. The resulting hybrid is capable of surviving either extreme heat or cold. Although it is unhealthy to travel from extreme heat to cold or vise versa.
Cranial and occipital hoods act like a skull. Protecting both the forward and rear region of an Avanta's brain. Stronger than steel, its smooth surface difficult to penetrate or damage. The forward cranial hood can either appear in black or grey. Black hoods are the most common. Grey hoods are much less common. Among some human cultures, grey hooded Avantas are seen as holy, pure spirits. The color of an Avanta's cranial hood has no real function other than appearance. Grey hooded Avantas are not physically and mentally greater or lesser than their black hooded counterparts.
