Chapter 12: Triton’s Premonition
(Kingdom of Atlantica...)
Deep beneath the waves, the underwater kingdom of Atlantica was abuzz with excitement. Sea creatures of all kinds from tiny minnows to large whales and of course, merfolk were all talking about the great concert that would take place in three days.
Atlantica was not only known for being a prosperous and well-protected kingdom, it was also famous for its musical talent and its renowned concerts. It just so happens that the renowned musical genius of Atlantica, Sebastian the red crab was personally in charge of supervising and conducting this musical.
Right now, the red crab was looking over music notes and lyrics he wrote two days earlier. King Triton himself had ordered him to compose the most excellent concert in honor of his granddaughter’s Melody’s birthday. “Okay, dis may work!” he spoke to himself. “Granted, I still need some rehearsal time and a bit rushed, but I believe I can’t do dis!! Now, let’s see...”
Unfortunately, he was so focused on his work that he didn’t hear some peculiar laughter behind him. Before Sebastian knew it, he was hit in the back so hard that it sent him flying and screaming in terror as he crashed right into some instruments. Bouncing off some drums, tumbling through windpipes and into a horn before being blown out and landing in front of the ones who ran into him.
“Gotcha, Uncle Sebastian!!” A small male yellow guppy with blue stripes yelled, grinning mischievously as Sebastian groaned and rubbed his eyes with his pincers. Along with him, were four other guppies grinning and giggling. “Geez, mon!!” The crab grumbled to himself as he scrambled back onto his six legs and glared at the little guppies playing and swimming around the room. “Just what I needed now!!”
“Now, stop this instant, you guppies!!” He exclaimed, as he scuttled after them. “I need everything in tip-top shape for the birthday concert, now off you go!!” The guppies just laughed and swum around, making the crab chase after them. Soon, he was running into all sorts of objects until he was all tangled up.
“Haa-haa!!” One of the little guppies with purple stripes laughed. “Come on, Uncle Sebastain!” “Don’t get all wound up!!” Sebastain grumbled, as he tapped his right claw on the ground, all tangled in seaweed and other string instruments.
“Now, kids.” A familiar voice spoke up. “No teasing Uncle Sebastain.” Swimming into view was Flounder, the guppies’ father and Ariel’s best friend. “PAPA!!” The little guppies swam over and hugged him tightly while Sebastain untangled himself.
“Flounder!!” He bemoaned as he scuttled over to his friend. “PLEASE, keep your fishes under control! I got enough on my plate, mon!!” he added, trying to put everything in place. “With the concert in short notice, I have to be sure this one is worthy of Melody’s birthday!!”
Flounder chuckled. “Sorry about that, Sebastain.” He replied. “But, I’m a little surprised that Melody’s birthday is almost here; after everything that has happened with Morgana, I almost forgot about it.”
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” A voice spoke up. Sebastain and Flounder turned to see King Triton, the powerful ruler of Atlantica and Ariel’s father. “Your majesty!!” Sebastain exclaimed, quickly making himself presentable while the guppies hid behind their father. Triton smirked, seeing how nervous the crab was. “How goes the rehearsal and instrumental practice, Sebastain?” He asked. “Is everything ready?”
“Yes, Your Majesty!” Sebastain replied. “I’ll be sure to give Melody a concert she will never forget!” “That is...if certain little guppies can stop trying my patience!!” The guppies made faces at the crab, making him grumble before turning to Triton. The Sea King chuckled a little. “Excellent! Now, we just need to...”
*HMMMMMMM!!!!!*
Suddenly, his trident began to glow brightly, much to everyone's surprise. It started to pulse golden and it was shaking with great intensity and tempo. “Y-Y-Your Majesty, what’s going on?!” Flounder exclaimed in a shaky voice, feeling the very water vibrate with the trident’s energy.
The trident glowed for a few moments, before it burst into a blinding flash of golden light!! Everyone in the room shielded their eyes from the intense flash. Soon, the humming and glowing died down and the trident returned to its normal hue.
Silence fell over the room. King Triton frowned as he stared at his trident. “Hmm...” He thought. “This is most unusual, I wonder...” “Your Majesty...” Sebastain scuttled up to the Sea King, shock registered on his face. “What just happened?” Triton remained silent, still staring at his trident.
Quickly, he summoned some of its power to create a temporary but strong soundproof barrier and closed all the doors, window shells and curtains. Everyone was shocked by this, and even more so when they saw the intense look on Triton’s face.
“Everyone, listen,” Triton stated in a firm, clear voice. “What I’m about to tell you is of the utmost importance and no one else must know about this. This must not leave this room, understood?” Sebastain, Flounder and his children were surprised but nodded, knowing it must be serious if Triton doesn’t what anyone to know about it.
Sighing a little, Triton held up his trident. “As you know, my trident is one of many, powerful objects in the Magic Kingdom.” He stated. “It also possesses the ability to sense when any artefacts of the sea are activated, artefacts of great power.” “That pulse and glow mean that an object of great oceanic magic has been activated.”
Everyone gasped at that. One of Flounder’s kids swam up to him. “King Triton,” he asked. “What other things are more like your trident?” “Well, little one,” The Sea King replied. “there are a few powerful artefacts that could make the trident glow, and I believe that it could be Poseidon's Seahorse.”
“Poseidon’s Seahorse?” Sebastain inquired. “What’s dat, your Majesty?’ “Well,” King Triton explained. “long ago, Poseidon, god of the Sea made three objects of great power and magic that would give command over the oceans.” “One of them was the trident to ensure the safety and protection of all marine life.” he added. “The other was a large deep-sapphire carved in the shape of a seahorse, the creatures that pulled Poseidon’s chariot across the waves.”
“Sadly, both of them and the third artefact were lost in time.” he finished. “They were not heard of in so many centuries, until now.” He turned to the others. “Sebastain, Flounder, little ones.” He spoke. “Listen to me, do not tell anyone about what has happened.” “If word gets out, it would cause a panic in the seas.” He added. “I need to pursue this to make sure if Poseidon’s Seahorse has truly been activated.”
They all gave a salute. “Not to worry, your Majesty.” Sebastain affirmed. “Our lips are sealed; no one will even know it!!” King Triton nodded and removed the barrier before swimming off to the palace, hoping to confirm his suspicions.
Flounder turned to Sebastain, worriedly. “I hope this Poseidon’s Seahorse doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.” he spoke up. “Ursula and Morgana were bad enough as it is, and that was without any magical object.” Sebastain nodded, just as worried. “So do I, Flounder.” He replied. “I hope Ariel and her family don’t get caught up in this mess.”
Unfortunately for Sebastain, he had forgotten the countless times Ariel would get mixed up with all sorts of adventures and this one would be no exception.
