Shortly after arriving on the Gilded Isles, Raaf attempts to run and stowaway on an outbound merchant ship, he wants to return to his family, his mother, who he knows will not be able to cope without him....
His attempt was doomed to fail from the start, though. It is never easy for a slave to escape.

The more I see of this cute fellow, the more I'm rooting for him. I like how you've got the golden sunlight streaming through, as if it's showing a way to freedom. Nice way of showing motion, through the flow of his tail and loincloth. It's cool what you've done with his expression, showing his separation and determination. I hope we see more of this lad and whether he's able to make it to freedom.😀✌✌✌✌
The collars are very hard to remove without the proper key or tools, they're also anti-magic in nature, meaning the slave can't cast magic while wearing one, any Cruxi they would get their hands on would be a useless rock, essentially, they also cancel magic cast directly at the collar itself, so breaking it with magic is difficult. They are made of a very strong metal that would require powerful tools to break, and breaking then can be dangerous for the slave wearing it.
The collar marks a person as a slave, so all patrols would know immediately that person is a slave. Slaves also have nothing, no weapons, little in the way of clothes etc. Running away, they would have to somehow procure that stuff, as well as food and shelter, without being seen.
Slaves also tend to be uneducated, not knowing how to read or write, and usually with no formal combat training. The liklihood of a slave being able to break free of the guarded hold, on in the Gilded Collar's case, the Island, find what they need to survive, get the collar off, and keep themselves out of the reach of slavers and make a living for themselves is very slim.
Slaves who escape really don't tend to think beyond getting out the cage, so to speak, and if they were to evade the guards and patrols, it's likely they would die of exposure, or starvation.
Most places offer rewards for the return of runaway slaves, except Harmonia, in most cases, they simply kill runaways. If the slave happens to come accross a kind soul willing to take the collar off, the savior has suddenly made themself responsible for another person who has nothing and no means of survival, would they ALSO be willing to harbour that slave, feed them, water them, clothe them, and teach them the skills they'd need? In the vast majority of cases, the answer is 'no'. Being cause harbouring runaways can also end badly for both people.
