I made this spoon today and it came out very large. It was made from material that my neighbor gave to me.
It was the metal rod parts to a foosball table. I am assuming it is stainless steel, but I don't know.
This spoon came out huge.
The rod stock it was made from was about 5/8ths diameter.

Welding galvanized steel gives off fumes that are extremely harmful to the respiratory system. Though, welding with stainless steel does too. There is chromium in the alloy as well as nickel. The chromium for sure can become a hexavalent version called chromium 6 when vaporized. It's not at all good to breathe in.
I don't really melt this stuff down, I heat it up while it is hot and hit it with a hammer. It would create metal fume, yeah. I am not really at risk of serious problems with this, because I forge in open space.
