What to say here? That we're here at last? That these are strange times? Do I acknowledge the year that's come before this, or do I tactfully avoid it?
It's easy to say that it's been a terrible year, and feels like it's bringing down the mood to keep reminding folks - but it also feels like it's disingenuous to not say it, to avoid the elephant in the room, that means that so many of us will be alone or away from the people they love. So it's tricky.
I love Christmas. I've said that before, and I'll say it again. I love it! The warm fires, the hot chocolates, the sherries, the presents, the smiles. They really make me... just so happy. This time of year that's for togetherness and generosity, it really warms my heart. And it's sad that so many won't be with the people that make them feel that way. That they won't have the Christmas they hold dear.
I've been going out for runs in the evening lately, which in the UK means after dark. It's a nice way to stay fit, not to mention clear the head after a day of coding or writing. Running at night isn't as fun as running during the day; less nice views, and you have to keep trying to avoid roots and people in the dark.
But this time of year - you see the lights. The flickering bulbs in windows, the sparkling baubles on trees, the gaudy displays in front gardens and the little fairy lights on bushes. And the closer we got to Christmas, the more there were.
And I like to think about that. The lights in the darkness. The bright rainbows and sparkling, twinkling golden beacons in the cold night. Celebrating and announcing anyway, that the time for kindness and happiness is here.

Am I late? I am totally late. Christmas always arrives late at the bottom of the sea. I was busy checking a bunch of cargo containers that some ship must have lost in the pacific some weeks before Christmas...
Anyway, thank you for putting me in the incredibly long list of people you shout out to. It was a pleasure and an honour to work with you on the commission and get to talk to you for a bit. You are a very unique artist (and I mean that in the most positive way possible!) and hope you will continue your legacy in drawing, writing and being overall impressive.
