T'was the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And Ma in her 'kerchief, and me in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
Out on our lawn I spied some paw tracks,
Perhaps from a canine in curious acts.
But lo and behold those prints did just end,
Right at mid-lawn a stop to the wend.
I pondered and looked at this curious sight,
When up on the rooftop I heeded this night,
A jolly soft chortle, a jingle from bauble,
I saw that night not ol Saint Nick, but a Furball.
First half of this poem is the original A Visit from St. Nicholas, written by Clement Clarke Moore, while the second paragraph was written by me.
