This is... well, it's hard to say. Mostly it's an exercise in miniature, a short song with few actual words and no attempt at clever wordplay. I don't think this will ever be a Julie Bunny Must Die song, yet I wrote it with LaserWolf in mind. There really isn't a section of the show where it would fit for him to be this emo. I didn't even bother to try to do his accent. Still, maybe it's a part of his backstory, which I suspect is a rather convoluted tale with some actual unspoken tragedy involved.
A week and a half ago, he was roaming around the lawn and the theater, good-naturedly harassing people and posing for pictures. "Don't worry!", he'd shout if the camera operator had a problem; "I can hold this face for hours!" Ironically, he's now in a cardboard box back in Orlando awaiting minor facial repair, and I'm perplexed at how much my day-to-day life once again resembles the one I was trying so hard to change, as if nothing at all had happened...
Eh, no one said this would be easy. Recorded in one take, with one minor piano edit.

I'd like to! I always meant Laser to be a character for others to inhabit; now it's time to think about bringing Rhubarb into existence. The tricky thing with him is that he should have the voice I would have if I hadn't spent the last 30 years of my life trying to obliterate my hillbilly accent.
Wow... that's sad. Makes me feel sorry for poor LaserWolf.
And you're right, there's not much room in Julie for this. It detracts too much from the main plot to focus on a supporting character's emotions. We see some of this in LW in the issues he discusses with Chase. This makes for a deep and moving piece, but it would detract from the pace and tone of the plot. That's just my 2 cents though ^__^
Nice piece.
The lyrics are very touching, in a sad way. It make you wonder how many fursuiters (and others) hide behind a mask like that for real. It Elicits an emotional response from the audience.
Good job.

It's a bit of a fine line, just because there's always the risk of people assuming you're making blanket statements about an entire community. I've managed to sidestep most of that, and just develop Laser as his own character. You don't have to feel too sad for him; there are times that he wearies of being "the clown", but it's really the only role in life he wants. His backstory may be tragic, but much better days lie ahead for him. At the point where the storyline of JBMD illuminates him, I like to think that he's just turned a corner and is about to take a big step up.
