Character Reference - Agoura Kochou
I took just a TINY break from making gifts to do something a bit more personal. ouo
Here's a long story/lore post for you, since I haven't done any recently 👀
This is a character that VERY few people know about, mostly because the last time I had officially drawn or worked with was 5 years ago, 2015. And even though she's actually a VERY important part to a certain someones story, she's not around at this point in the timeline- because she's dead.
This, my friends, is Agoura- teacher and mother-figure to our very own Aria.
For those who DO know her, you'll notice she's has a slight change in last name. There might eventually be a reason for that, but for now, that's how it is. I think she might still be a Pseudo-Jinchuuriki though... 🤔 I'm not sure yet... But she still works with Butterflies! They're still her Summons and the base of her jutsus, and she still has the nickname 'Butterfly Queen'. Plus I decided to give the marks on her face like a clan thing, kinda like Kiba or Kimimaro.
If she looks like she's more out of place in Sunagakure than Aria is, that's because Suna isn't her home village! She actually originates from Iwagakure.
She ended up in Suna after a very, VERY specific and brutal incident that she was forced into via the murder of some close family members in order to 'convince' her to do so, which also plays a huge part in Arias backstory- that incident being the destruction of Arias birth village.
So, obviously you wouldn't expect that to bode well, and since she was from Iwagakure, she was met with incredible distrust from the Sunagakure residents considering the two villages aren't on good terms cannonically. It wasn't until after a certain amount of time that she found this little, weird, WINGED homeless kid in the streets (Aria), and she took her in since Suna isn't exactly a very forgiving place when it comes to strangers or oddities(see; Gaara and Sasori). So both girls were kinda shunned, and nearly pushed around. Agoura more or less helped raise Aria without knowing who she was or where she came from, and DEFINITELY not knowing that she aided in the destruction, murder and burning of this little girls village. She was met with alot of criticism and backlash for it, but she still pushed on and tried her best to give Aria as good a life she could. She was the one who saved Aria when Gaara attacked her, and became a teacher to help her fly and get stronger.
She became slightly stoic and cold in the incident with Gaara, though she was always worried about Aria considering she pushed herself constantly to the point of passing out. She aided Aria when going into the Chunin exams(THAT wasn't fun, traveling with the Sand siblings and Aria nearly picking MULTIPLE fights with Gaara on he way there), and unfortunately realized exactly who Aria was during the final battle of the exams. That realization was like an absolute drill-bit to the gut, knowing that she, who pretty much raised Aria as her own after finding her orphaned and homeless, was the reason why Aria has been orphaned and homeless in the first place. (And was stunned when Aria was willing to forgive Gaara after he apologied, really kinda relieved that the two became good friends again)
Aria didn't find out about her involvement of the burning village until after Hotaru came into the picture (around or slightly before Shippuden), and there was a period of time where Aria avoided her entirely. They eventually started talking again after it was realized that Agoura was IMMENSELY regretful over the whole thing and had apologized repeatedly.
So then everything was good; until the War.
Agoura dies in the war, protecting Aria from a blow that would have killed her. She dies with a smile though, in knowing that Aria had forgiven her and that the winged woman was strong enough to help herself without any guidance.
Aria was DEVISTATED, but will occasionally visit Agouras grave years later and just have a one-sided conversation.
So, yes- in the current spot of the timeline, which is around where Boruto is currently taking place since Aria is in her 30s and she ages along with the main cast, Agoura is dead. She HAS been dead since the war, a good 12-15 years after the current cannonical timeline, I think.
But why would I redesign her now? Why give her life?
Well, because I'm gonna be going back and working on Arias story more soon! :D
Yupyup, more refsheets, more information, and so much very needed indulgence. Plus I'm actually rewatching the show, so I'll be thinking along the way!!~ So, get ready for more Naruto-verse goodness, because it's gonna come on in waves 👀
