This kind of reminds me of an old Dodge van a friend of mine had and we would go on adventures. I always thought it strange that the driver and passenger would sit up front with the engine between them. Yes. It would get unbearably hot sometimes. UAZ you say?

It seems to be a configuration which was in vogue in the past but disappeared - my cousin has two old Taunus Transit vans where the small gasoline engine is between the front seats, and I used to have a 1977 Mercedes 508D van where the engine was between the driver and passenger footwells.
