Right after Kye, comes Wing, his loyal partner, and best friend! It's certainly been a much longer time since I drew Wing, but I consider this one of my best drawings of a Dragonite yet, and it certainly comes a long way since when I first did one.
Wing was first introduced in 2011, where I didn't even draw him; I used line art, and thankfully, he didn't wear anything except his family heirloom ring, which was an easy add-in. He didn't receive as many updates as his partner, but his last one was in 2013 where he took on a very similar appearance to Kye, something I wanted between the two of them, which was consistency. However, it was clear that he was beginning to look a little clunky and a few ideas started popping into my head recently as to what to do with him when it came time to draw him again, one of which came at the time before I drew him, and the other came as I was coloring him, so I got the best of both worlds!
Once again, I decided to simplify keeping count of updates of my characters, so rather than adding a decimal for each change, I'm going to count how many times I updated him, as well as treat this as a reintroduction, since it's been so long, so without further ado...
His Majesty the Third, Wing O'Doyle-Dragonite, is one of the current rulers of Aunov, the Kingdom of Light, on the planetoid Ioa. He currently serves alongside his husband Kye and best friend Sacred • sdragon01. Together with their families, they live just across from the capital in a 30-story-tall tower. He is a bright orange Dragonite, which colors his entire body; he doesn't have the same tan secondary scale color down his chest as a normal Dragonite does. His birthday is April 30, 1996, making him 24 years old (as of this upload).
Wing was born by his parents, Maple and Theodore Dragonite, as a Dratini in a village full of Dragon-type Pokémon, deep in the mountains of Aunov, far from many civilizations. It is known that many villages exist across Ioa full of Pokémon dedicated to one type, and most are very compliant with one another. Strangely, Wing was never given a name at birth, he was merely called whatever part of the evolutionary chain he was in, or an abbreviated version of it, so 'Tini, 'Nair, or eventually 'Nite. It hasn't quite been explained why this was the case.
In Wing's village were very few families, so he didn't have many friends, but he always figured out how to make the most of his time during the day, running around the village or the woods nearby to play either by himself or with those he knew, and hanging out with the forest or lakeside Pokémon. He loved spending time with his parents, helping his mother in the kitchen of their cabin, and going out to help his father gather wood for the village. They had some amenities, such as electricity, to power small low-power electronics, but that was about it. Any sort of supplies was brought in from the village's adults, flown in, or was already there in the form of books or by stories, mostly provided by Wing's grandfatherly figure, the village's Elder Salamance, who Wing always enjoyed spending time with as well, looking up to him as a smart and wise dragon. It was a peaceful and quiet village...
However, not all was at ease, thanks to the nearby village of Fire-type Pokémon, run by a rude and demanding Infernape, who consistently wanted to force the village to relocate as they wanted access to the land, something the Elder Salamance always denied to them and talked them out of each and every time, preventing any escalation. This came to a boiling point when the village was attacked by the Fire-type Pokémon in the middle of the night, forcing Maple to wake Wing up to try and get him to safety. The villagers were doing their best to fend off the Fire-types, which Theodore was assisting them with, while Maple was doing her best to get Wing out of there, but with cabins burning and with Fire-type Pokémon trying to attack the Dragon-types, Wing's mother made the hard decision to give the young dragon their family heirloom, a large gold ring embowed with the power of fire, and with simple instructions: run away from here, as far as you can, as fast as you can. With a shove, and a heavy heart, she ran off to go find her husband, leaving Wing to try and go after her, but when Fire-types drew near to threaten him, he ran off into the night, scared out of his mind, and constantly looking back to see his home burning...
All night long, Wing ran. He didn't stop running, he wasn't sure where he was going but he did exactly what his mother told him to do. He didn't even notice a Warp Pipe he had run through, leaving the mountainous paths and into a flat and foggy forest, with dawn just starting to break. Eventually, Wing tumbled and crashed to the ground, and started to bawl, his face wet with tears, fearing that his family had been killed, all of his friends, everyone he knew, and his home too. Everything had gone so wrong so quickly, that he just wanted to curl up on the spot and let Arceus come and take him... He was exhausted, hungry, thirsty, but he didn't want to satisfy any of those needs...
WHOOSH! A blast of air rushes past Wing, but he didn't even notice it... Not until it rushed back at him, and standing before him was a green Yoshi, dressed in a golden crown, a red neckerchief, and red and sky blue air shoes. The dinosaur asked what was wrong, with the dragon just barely being able to answer him past his sobbing, but the former was able to comprehend, knowing this guy just had the worst night of his life. The Yoshi wasn't about to leave this Dragonite here all by himself, so he helped him back up to his footclaws and offered to take him home, so he'd at least have a place to stay. When he asked for a name, the dragon couldn't answer him; he technically didn't have one, but that answer wasn't good enough for the Yoshi, who decided to give him one: Wing. The Dragonite stopped crying for a moment, he had a feeling about this Yoshi, he cared a lot for him, thanks to the tone of voice he had and the look of concern on his face the entire time. There was something about him he could trust, so he wiped his tears away and accepted it, and his new friend introduced himself as Kye. Together, they took a walk back to Kye's home.
After a relaxing bath, a nap, and a hot meal, Wing shared his story to Kye about what happened in full, and when he was finished, he admitted that he wasn't sure what to do next. He had just lost everything, but he also ended up here, in this stranger's home, where he was being taken care of without a second thought. When Kye offered to let Wing stay here, it was an odd feeling, he thought about going away again, but he decided to stay, knowing that this was probably the safest place for him to go.
Immediately after, Kye started treating Wing as if he were his own family member. Sharing his room and bed, his clothes and things, always sitting with him for meals, and Kye's parents took notice and treated him as part of the family. It was heavily reassuring, and it made Wing feel like he had something back again. It helped his mind recuperate and heal, he got some strength back as Kye started helping him with that, and showing him places he's visited, as well as the tips and tricks he's learned, and soon enough Wing would learn how to move as fast as Kye, remarkably on his feet, although he later enjoyed flying more than running.
As the years pass, Wing had regained his composure, he was a better dragon, and he had Kye to thank for that. He now had his friends by his side too, and they were now back in Aunov once Kye's parents had revealed to him that this was his actual home. After a bit of research into this world himself, Wing came to realize that this is where he came from too, and now that he was older, and how strong friends by his side, he pitched to Kye and his older brother Sacred that it was time to go out into Aunov and find his home again, or at least, any news that they could find. They agreed, and the trio set out into the mountains to try and find that old village... However, it seems that Wing followed some odd directions, taking them to a rather rundown city far off to the east, but there, they were able to gather more information and point themselves in a new direction...
Together, they entered a new section of the mountains, where much to Wing's surprise and delight, he found a Pokémon village, filled with Dragon-types, all of who he knew! Neighbors, old friends, even the Elder Salamance. But perhaps the most heartwarming was entering the last cabin in the village, and finding his parents again. Everyone was safe, they all were a bit beat up from that scuffle years ago, but no one was killed in the raid on the village. They were now farther from the Fire-types and had built a much better village. It was perhaps the greatest moment of Wing's life, a complete moment of redemption, years in the making.
Wing would continue to live in the Silver Tower with Kye and his family and friends and visit his parents frequently, but he would be treated to yet another bombshell, when he came to visit one day, and realize that he heard a new voice inside... Coming to see his parents in the kitchen, Wing was greeted to an odd sight: a completely red-orange Charizard, but his arms and legs were shaped like a Dragonite's, and his tail wasn't on fire at all yet he was doing just fine. Highly confused as to why there was a Fire-type in their house, Maple revealed to both the Dragonite and Charizard-Dragonite hybrid that they are both siblings, and the former is Wing's older brother. Spending the night in his childhood room, it was hard to comprehend... How could this be? He had a brother, and he was a Fire-type? The same Pokémon who raided his home that dreaded night and led him to assume all was lost? That's what he was thinking, but it took a conversation with the Charizard to realize his fears and worries were for naught. The Charizard's mother was Maple, but his father was a Charizard from the Fire-type village, but because the villages were at odds with each other, it was a very forbidden relationship, and his father didn't treat Maple that well to begin with, something that led the Charizard to defend her. He then went out into the world to explore on his own, but he never knew that he had a younger brother as well. Much to Wing's surprise and partial humor, the Charizard wasn't even given a name either, so Wing gave him one, just like Kye did for him: he called his brother Torch, and it stuck, to help them put aside their differences and take care of their families.
Sometime later back home at the Tower, Wing would be pleasantly surprised to have his parents and Torch visit him, and with the intention of moving in with him at the capital, so they could all be closer as a family again. He was very quick to say yes, and this was wonderful timing, as adventures, he had endured with his friends later helped him rise to power in Aunov as one of the ruling Kings, making Torch a prince, and his parents the High King and High Queen with him.
After years of pondering the idea, Wing came forward to Kye and confessed his feelings, to which he replied back with the exact same sentiments. Both of them are the first in royalty to be married to the same sex in Aunov.
Wing is cheerful, kind, and bright. When he was younger, he was also somewhat oblivious, which is why the raid on his village was so sudden to him, but that was something he grew out of in favor of being more alert and cautious about situations around him. He is also very caring to those around him, always willing to slow down and offer assistance who need it. Wing has a cocky side to him much like Kye, but he really only shows it when around the green Yoshi.
Wing enjoys being around his friends and family, and loves to cook, serving as the main chef for the Tower's occupants. He also enjoys taking long flights, usually to see a new location, or to just get in the air.
His Majesty, the Third is an Ioan Dragonite: solid orange in color from head to toeclaw, with no tan chest, tummy or tail to be seen. This is actually a common trait among species on Ioa, in which their appearance is slightly altered from that of the "Pure" of their species, or what many on Ioa consider to be the prime version of themselves; as such, a colored Dragonite with tan on them is known as a Pure Dragonite to Ioans. Wing also has teal-blue wings, off-white claws, and light yellow antennae... or head noodles. His eyes are sky blue.
In Ioa, Pokémon are noticeably different from their Pure counterparts, in that they have minor visual differences that also affect their battling skils. There are actually two types of Ioan Dragonites commonly known, and while they do not have a proper designation, there are visible cues to their body that indicate which one they are, [url+https://www.deviantart.com/ikyle/art/Cherry-Doyle-Dragonite-827689498]originally shared during Cherry's introduction. Ioan Dragonite can either have claws or round grabby handpaws and footpaws. In Cherry's case, he has the latter, which also means his Attack and Defense are lower but his Special Attack and Special Defense are higher. For Wing, this is opposite as he was born with claws, so he has better Attack and Defense, but worse Special Attack and Special Defense. Wing is a very odd case as he actually knows five moves: Hurricane, Twister, Dragon Claw, Extreme Speed, and Flamethrower.
Thanks to Kye and their time together, he also is capable of moving at super speeds, incredibly using his legs, but later, he preferred to use his wings to accomplish the same thing. Wing is also a Softie, sporting a malleable body that can be changed into different looks or forms, either on his own or by someone else (see [url+https://www.deviantart.com/ikyle/art/King-Kye-O-Doyle-Version-7-852342492}Kye's Version 7 update for more). However, he is stretchier than Kye is, mainly in his arms, giving him the ability to attack and throw long-range punches akin to Sonic the Werehog, and to snatch things from a distance.
Also a downgrade from Version 3, Wing has retired much of his golden gear in favor of two primary and minimal outfits. Both of which include the Aunova Royal Family emblem - ironically still in gold - to indicate his affiliation with the Royal Family and to substitute for royal attire, such as the crown. However, it doesn't completely replace it as he will still put it on for formal events.
Besides wearing nothing at all, the first of these two outfits involves the same neckerchief that Kye now wears, just scaled up to size. It is also double-layered, with a dominantly red front layer, and a colorful back layer, consisting of yellow, green, and blue, which were the same colors of the crown and armbrace he once wore. The second includes a dark brown pilot's jacket with a fluffy cream interior that shows from the sides, the ends of his sleeves, and around the neck. Both of these outfits have a pair of flight goggles but with different colors: the neckerchief has a lighter cream colored band, while the pilot's jacket has a dark brown one to match the jacket. Finally, both of these outfits also include two rings that he wears almost all of the time: a gold one that he received from his mother during the raid on his village, which is a family heirloom, and a silver one, which is his wedding band with Kye, which he wears underneath it.
This one was alot easier to do than Kye's was, having to recall years worth of RPs and updates to put together into his story, which may need a bit of fixing up, now that I think about it. I always knew about Wing's for years now, so his was easy to recall and put back into place. But I was so proud of this drawing of him, it was my best job at a Dragonite so far but I still feel like I need work on the legs; it shows how messed up they are. Still, I'm so glad to have brought him back again and caught him up with the crowd.
Thanks for reading and looking!
