I love these horns....
I used a very very big bunch of different effects and lil tricks in PS to get this done, I really wanted to add some kind of feeling a special sort of mood to it. And it turned out nearly exactly as I would have liked it to be.
The background is completely digital painted only using a photo as reference for the shape and shadows on a stone and rocky wall.
The "mood" on this was a bit inspired by this artwork done by my sister *lizkay ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/329046/ ) but only inspired.
You may remeber the sketch of this, you can also find it in my scraps! ;)
The original file has got 200 dpi and it's size is 1600x1900 pixels, I would have made it bigger and with 300 dpi but I was afraid that my comp would not be able to "handle" such a big file.
The original working file has got 79 layers (50 visible), 27 individual layer masks, 3 layers with special layer styles, partially coloured outlines, a cell shading and cell based light areas and two additional layers for an additional gradient shading.
I think I can dare to say that I really have become a pro with PS. ;)
I hope ya like it, I love this piece.

I definitely concur; those horns are hyper-handsome. The way they take a prominent part of the body and command a strong presence, the way they curve backwards, the grooves on them... all those traits make those horns admirable. They also 'complete' the look of the dragon itself. Even from that imposing, 'passively active' pose, you can see the sleek shape he has, given how streamlined his muscles are (especially in this position) with the pointed ears rested backwards and the face that follows the direction of the ears and horns. His expression also adds to the 'evil' or 'opposing' look, though the design of the eyes (and surrounding area) also help. I also like how you have him holding himself against the wall, making a 'stock "dynamic"' pose far more interesting. The one thing that bothers me is how his right toes are quite lumpy past the tip. I also mention how the subtle shading gives the body a depth that does not intrude into the viewer's admiration of the dragon.
What is impressive is how intense the background works. I can 'hear' the rain falling! I also appreciate how the rain is jumping and sliding off the dragon. The way the raindrops are placed tell of how his body is affected by the rain. The blurry, yet sharply-highlighted rocks also add to the intensity of the background. You even made a tiny 'river' by the side of a wall!
The whole environment gives the feeling that you are trapped inside while a dragon jumps in front of you and becomes your opponent.
