Big meaningless damage numbers upsets Sofi's gaming sensibilities. Portia on the other hand is having a blast.

But it gets to the point where it just doesn't make sense. Take Borderlands, the game being referenced here, for example: no matter how powerful they are, they're still just human beings. And having to literally unload an entire magazine of bullets into the abdomen of a human enemy to kill them is just silly to me.
Yeah. another example is dark souls 2, in which compared to 1 the first enemies you encounter have like hundreds of health but take five hits to kill. But since the numbers people do are like 100 damage per strike everyone seemed to be so much happier than in 1 where you do 10 damage but kill the enemy in two hits.
Sometimes, people will ignore how much damage they're actually doing, so long as the number is big so it looks like their damage is bigger than it feels.

This right here is why don't get why they're glorifying how much damage you can do in the upcoming Disgaea 6. It's much too overwhelming and eventually feels more like a chore to fight enemies with that much HP.
Also, I like how the Psychos are wearing the mask Yamask carries around.

"13050 k" Yeah, seriously, what the fuck even is that? I thought the whole purpose of that sign is to shorten numbers, how you gonna have that sign and still have more than three digit numbers???
I'm pretty sure Disgaea does this same shit too, although there it's worse because you're dealing with billions and trillions of damage.

I like when people say “it’s unrealistic to have to shoot a normal dude a bunch.” Yes, god forbid anyone think any of the borderlands games are silly. Games where you can reload guns by throwing them like grenades and robots meme. Reminds me of when people complained doom enteral was too arcadey. GAME IS GAME. If enemies are too tanky lower the difficulty or get some bigger guns, the numbers can be obnoxious but that’s kinda the point of the game and it’s way better done than a game like anthem or destiny.
I was JUST thinkin about this very thing not long ago.
Clearly, it is done as a way to empower players by making them think they have reached godlike levels of power, when in reality it is more an illusion of power.
After all, more often than not, the numbers don't mean crap when enemies scale alongside you. If you deal 10K damage and everyone has between 60-80K Health, then really there is no different than dealing 10 damage to people with 60-80 health.
Paper Mario did it right, most damage was in the single digits, so when you managed to do a double digit attack, that's how you knew you really were doing MASSIVE damage. None of this "five thousand damage a second" nonsense.

Needlessly huge numbers always strike me as being a little silly. Can't even remember what game it was I played recently where 4+ digit damage numbers were normal right off the bat, and seeing screens of MMOs where glass cannon characters have HP with m as an abbreviation for millions. What happened to the good old days of starting with like 30 HP and being wowed by your first attack to deal 3-digit damage? I mean, if you want huge damage, just imagine an m after every number.
Ever play Quest for Glory? It's way more RPG than most of these "RPG elements" games and it doesn't have levels at all. You build your stats with exercise and practice. It gets easier to kill enemies, but you still have to know what you're doing or anything can,and will, kill you. Of course,if you know what to do,you can kill just about anything at the start. And,of course, some problems can't be solved with violence.
Borderlands falls into that simple difficulty trap of simply making the monsters do more damage and have more health. Wouldn't it be more interesting if higher difficulty opened up new abilities on enemies and made stronger enemies more common. Let's use a simple example from Fallout.
So in this Fallout, you don't get levels, you don't get more HP,you up your skills through training and using them. You don't become a walking god tank. We'll start with easy difficulty.
On easy,a location held by raiders will have Raider Smashers and Shooters. Smashers have simple melee weapons like lead pipes and pool cues, very "using what they have to smash people over the head" and will simply hit you with them. Shooters have basic pipe weapons and just shoot. You'll run into 10 raiders tops.
On normal, the same location will have Smashers and Shooters, but now there's 15 and their leader is a Raider Crusher. A Crusher is a Smasher with a better weapon with rank 2 mods,a perk that allows them to knock you down,a bit more health, and will aim to do leg damage specifically.
On hard, there's now 20 raiders,2 Crushers, and a Gunslinger. The gun slinger has a revolver hand gun with rank 2 mods and will aim for the body. Smashers and Shooters get rank 1 mods for their weapons.
On Expert, there's now 25 raiders,2 Slashers,2 Crushers, and a Sniper. Slashers have a bonus to running speed, dodge roll, and cause bleeding when they hit you as well as doing bonus damage when attacking from behind. Snipers have a hunting rifle with rank 2 mods and will aim for the head. Better keep moving or he will take your head off. Crushers get more bonus health.
And that's how I'd do it. More enemies, more risk, but more loot. And in some cases, better loot. But that's me.
