From my MerMay 2020 Series:

No matter how much I enjoy the Animal Crossing games, it's always been somewhat irksome to me that even among all the anthropomorphic villagers that populate the series the fish and insects remain disappointingly unchanged from their real-world counterparts. How cute would a butterfly villager be? A snail one? Most importantly, just imagine all the incredible possibilities for MER-villagers already offered by New Horizon's expansive critterpedia: Nintendo, I'm begging you, give us a sea butterfly mermaid to run errands for, a manta ray merman (mermanta?) to exchange seashells and stuff with... we already have octopus villagers, so this doesn't feel like too much of a stretch to me. This could also open up the opportunity for underwater exploration and terraforming... I'm picturing a quaint little neighborhood situated in a colorful coral reef, or a glowing grotto full of stones to harvest for selling and crafting purposes (as if Timmy and Tommy weren't suffering enough already with the literal garbage I pawn off on them on the daily). At this point I'm basically making a game for Nintendo, so I'll stop here until they start paying me.
