Komos has a fangirl, Komos has a fangirl!
A gal who goes by the name "Toko the Hyena" asked me to sign her copy of Furry Nation...and told me the wonderful story of how she came to crush on everyone's favorite anthropomorphic Komodo dragon, Komos K. Dragon, varanus komodoensis:
I can tell you what I remember of it. It was about...maybe 2 years or so ago at the 2018 Anthrocon! I was hanging out with a friend of mine there, and I was amazed with all the people around me having so much fun. I was very new to the fandom at that time and because of that, I had made it a little mission to take photos with pretty much every suit!
We had to leave because I had to fly back to Texas, as I was having some issues at the time. Before I left though, I saw a suit out of the corner of my eye. It was Komos. I can't remember where Komos was or what he was doing but I remember stopping in my steps and staring for a moment until my friend tapped on my shoulder. I sadly lost all my photos of that convention and it was the only one I went to.
I remember coming home and as soon as I got into my room I grabbed the nearest sketchbook and filled at least 2-3 pages with sketches of Komos. Had to say, I was an ultra fangirl. It wasn't until about 6-7 months ago that I realized that even if I couldn't get a suit like Komos, I could still have a life like him! Thus came my dream suit. A kangaroo that I named Toko. Countless nights I've spent sketching him out and once the seller said that I could buy him, I was so excited.
Then everything fell apart. I had to quit my job, I could barely stand on my feet after 12+ hour shifts. I had to find money in order to bring Toko home, but I couldn't. He's sitting in Houston, Texas right now.
Then about a month ago, I decided that for Christmas I would buy myself a book. I looked for furry books, here and there. Then I came across "Furry Nation". I was excited and was so ready to order the book and I saw who wrote it. It was a blast from the past. I'm pretty sure I started to cry once I saw a photo of Komos. If gold lockets weren't so expensive, I would wear one with Komos in it. He was my inspiration, my past, my everything. To this day, I still can't remember if it was actually Komos I saw at the convention because I did remember seeing a photo of Komos when I looked up fursuits and he was in my head. It could of been anyone...but my heart said...well? Komos.
I can't tell you how touched Komos was when he read this; he might even had shed a (crocodile?) tear or two himself, I'm not quite sure. Anyway, Toko the Hyena was kind enough to share her Komos fan art with me, which I'm now sharing with you...and Toko, once we have furcons again, my scaly alter-ego is looking forward to meeting you!
