My mama kitty, formerly my familiar.
When i was running a dangerous high fever, and started sleepwalking, she followed me out of the house, and when i woke up scared, and not knowing where i was, she tugged on my pants, meowed and showed me the way home.
She taught me compassion, and tried to teach me patience. She was wise beyond her years. She had 20 litters of feral kittens in her lifetime, not one of them could be tamed. We would take her in when she got pregnant, and my mom said she would spay her afterward, but she always went on a shopping spree, and wasn't able to afford it.
Mama kitty wore her body out, at ten she had arthritis, a sway back and broken teeth, but she'd still make the mile long walk from her den to our house. She'd lay in my lap contentedly, unless she brought her kittens, which she'd try to accustom to humans.
Once she came home after missing for a week, gaunt and starving, i gave her a hotdog, and after taking a bite (to make sure her kittens could chew it) she carried it down the step to them, waited until they finished, and ate the leftovers. I've never seen a starving cat, even a mama, give up it's food to it's kittens.
