part 1 of a special project I'm undertaking.
I'm going to draw a special series of Renamon pics in which I attempt to emulate the styles of a few particular artists who are either highly influential, or whom I have an affinity for their work. I will then combine their traits into an "original character" at the end.
Today's picture was an attempt at how I figure
chimerasynx might draw Renamon. I have a new found appreciation for how much work goes into drawing all those teeth, not to mention the crazy texture I can only make 2nd rate knock-offs of lol
probably a lot more things I could do to this, but I think I learned all I could from this exercise at the moment.

yeah, I'm gonna do disturbing things like this from time to time. probably more frequently as I build more confidence in my ability.
The funny part is, I started with the intent for scary, but as time went on I felt I'd rather help her oil up than recoil in horror from her . was kinda inspired by this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/680395/ , but I dunno if I could have made her that fugly if I tried lol.

Renamon has never looked so happy...
And continuing your response to my journal: it depends on what you undertake. I have different procedures for everything I do, but if you need help with something in particular, feel free to ask and I will reply to the best of my ability =D

Well lets start with something simple, say the organization of how you go about your work; If I organize significantly different it would lead to discrepancies no matter how I go about doing it. What was your starting resolution for something like your most recent works like "meat socks" or "in the the arms of angels"? how many layers did you use? did you flatten partway through to conserve RAM?
I started this one at about 6,200*4,800 with about a 25% buffer zone out side of the picture so I could drag the canvas around even when I got to the edge. I flattened and saved three version with more and more stuff painted over it. I likely used about a little less than 40 layers total.

hhmm, That's a hard one, I use different resolutions depending. It all has to do with my current perspective. I did use a huge resolution on the 'In The Arms of Angels' pic, that was done at 4000pixels high, but oddly the meat-socks one, while starting big was cut down to half size-half way through. It depends on my mood really. Sometimes I work better in higher resolutions, adding in every detail piece by piece... but sometimes that doesn't work well, so then I shrink the image and I get a better view of what the actual upload image will look like, and I make adjustments from that point. Sometimes you can make something look more detailed by using a smaller canvas size, because no matter how much detail you add to a larger canvas, well... some of those details might not transfer well to resizing, some might not even show at all, and if they are crucial then it becomes a blemish on he picture. Here is the problem with my method though... Once you shrink down, you cannot upscale. It is a one way thing, obviously, because making the picture bigger will ruin it and make it super blurry. So you have to make sure to get the fine details done first, OR be prepared to make fine details on another canvas, and past/resize them directly onto the picture you are making.
As far as layers go, umm.. use as many as you can, but if you want the picture to look really nice, you are going to have to get a flow to it; one multiple layers cannot achieve. Having to go through 5 layers to make one brush stroke is time consuming and not productive, so I try and flatten whenever I can.
In summery I am INCREDIBLY SLOPPY. =D

lol shrinking the canvas down to upload size BEFORE I was finished never occurred to me at all! I mean, It's happened after I upload and go "oh damn! there's a very noticeable error!" where I'll whip up a quick fix, but purposefully? never considered that by a long shot. Does this approach help with fur too? I find it really tricky.
I'll have to give that a try on my next photorealistic picture.

Well, assuming it's more like a poorly disguised synx rather than a messed up Renamon...I'd imagine quite an other worldly experience given that the teeth are not suited for biting/chewing and can be pivoted like little fingers in the mouth at will, and that Synxes lack any sort of gag reflex or uvula. Not to mention the extremely long tongue. Somehow I get the feeling you're going to be the only person to ask that for this piece XD.
