this awesome line art for the 'public domain' (still copyrighted, but she granted permission for others to color themselves for an icon), with the intention to help spread the word about "Pawsday". Pawsday, as far as I can tell, is some arbitrary day chosen in May (the 21st, I believe) to .. celebrate paws? Something like that. Anyhow, I printed out her line art, shaded it with some Prsimacolor pencils, scanned it, threw a photo of Denver in the background, and viola.
I'm going to go back and add some shading to the white parts -- Rooth's scales and talons are white, but they should have some dimension to them, and perhaps some texture. This submission shows the shading and texture added. Not much, but a little.
This is my first attempt (I haven't colored in YEARS), and it's not that great. Plus my new 11x17 scanner apparently sucks at scanning subtle shades. This looks much better on paper. The scanner doesn't have much in the way of filter options, though.
I'll be practicing some more with the pencils, and will then move on to markers. One of them I'm sure will come out better than this, and I can update it then. :)
