[Diplomatic Immunity] (SPOILERS!!!) Apex Predator?
Mild spoilers for part 2 of Diplomatic Immunity.
I just felt like drawing some y'vakkon. Part 2 introduces Y'velle, Dem'mit's secretary who is even more of a badass than he is.
Sorry Dem'mit/Tamrood shippers but Dem'mit has a bit of a hookup with Y'velle. (Actually, not sorry since I despise shipping)

Reminds me a little of the Kzinti, where the most moderate members became 'Speakers-to-Animals' (i.e. Diplomats) as they could not risk another conflict with humanity. The concept does work in the reverse as I feel that the y'vakkon may not be into the extermination of other sentient species.
Even if they negotiate from a position of strength, they still need to come to an agreement or the other side may decide they don't need the deal at all. One of the classic negotiation techniques does require the ability to seemingly relent a little. You know, setting the price higher than what you want to let the other haggle you down to what you wanted in the first place.
As it looks here, that can lead to an interesting relationship between boss and secretary. At a guess I'd say that when it comes to his job Y'velle follows Dem'mit's orders to the letter, but behind closed doors and on everything else she challenges him all the way.
