I like to think of this one is a girl, or that's how I was speaking to it when I was observing and shooting it. "She" was on the small size for a blue heron, which of course in bird anatomy terms usually means the critter is a boy, but oh well what the heck. I am on familliar (ie feeding) terms with a blind Blue Heron at the wildlife center, and he was a huge bit bigger than this one, so eh, whatever. This was taken on the same day as the Sandhill Crane shots that are in my gallery if I remember correctly. She was over a ridge behind the two Sandhills, and she was feeding in one of the swamps that I frequent near my home in Florida. This would have been taken sometime between 6:30 and 9:00 in the morning, so it's safe to assume this lovely sheila was having a spot of breakfast!
