The art of summoning had always been one R'naya gave a distant glance. Hydaelyn's blessing kept her from experiencing the true wrath of the primals she faced, yet witnessing Ysale's relationship with Shiva and her abilities finally drew her interest...Ever a prosperous student of the darker magics, R'naya was a potent black mage finding her place in the world. However, it was in the wake of the Scions' betrayal that she was slighted a tragedy- caught in the collapse of the ruins she escaped through, the miqo'te suffered serious injuries, her fingers broken and her legs all but crushed, resulting in amputation. For the next year she pushed on with passable prosthetics from the Ironworks, the use of aether allowing her then rather frail frame to make some use of them, but it was not a life she wished to continue living.
And so she turned to the art that Ysale had turned, beginning to take interest in the direct channeling of the primals. Most of the beast tribes and Ysale sought to call the primal directly, becoming a vessel for an ethereal form...R'naya, however, wondered if a more intimate call might be achieved. Given her prowess as a black mage, she saw that her affinity to the element of Fire would make Ifrit the safest eikon to approach in this endeavor, and so called on the Amalj'aa she had befriended in the past while dealing with the Lord of the Inferno. With their assistance, she sought to call the Primal through herself as the vessel, theorizing that, with perfection, she could temporarily channel the primal's energy enough to regenerate the limbs she had lost. With her blessing from Hydaelyn temporarily severed no-less, she played with it further to ensure her safety in the summoning.
It was an overzealous plot, and one which R'naya severely underestimated her own potential in. Her affinity to fire was so much stronger than she expected of herself, and the faith already placed in her from about the land to this point resulted in a powerful summoning. One as intimate as she hoped, but far more...Were she a commoner, or perhaps less willed, she would have surely lost herself to the eikon's influence, but instead what resulted was a fusion of the two, and a creation of something new. Her frail body pulsed and surged with a feral fire, the angst and trauma that had accumulated over the years driving her cute face forward to a snarling snout as she began to hulk into a proper fire beast.
R'naya in her Primal form draws clearly on the Ifrit of past eons, more beastial than that of the more fiendish Lord that the Amalj'aa, though it could be reasoned that she bears a closer resemblance to that of the beastmen, yet clearly her miqo'te blood and perhaps the populace's view of her cat-girl status resulted in this more fluffy form. Ifrit's traditional flaming reds and oranges were exchanged for the mage's deeper, softer preferences. The beast of a maiden stands hardly to the height that the true Ifrit does, though one could reason this being an incomplete fusion, R'naya holding herself just enough to keep from turning into a complete primal...That result would be monstrous and powerful for certain, but there would be no turning back.
The transformation does not last long, the absolute surge of aether running through her was only temporarily, and soon she begins to reshape back to her original state...However now permanently altered. Her wish granted, though perhaps far from what she intended. Her waist down was now that of a beast, fur growing in a gradient with striped thighs, the knees below full furred hooves. Her hands, too, restored and more, fingers ending in proper claws. What's more, she could now feel a permanent burning inside of her...In her plight, R'naya Chaho had become the first primal-infused mortal.
Ever since I looked into the PvP gear for R'naya a few years ago in the middle of Heavensward, I absolutely fell in love with the wolfliege's boot set for it's unique shapes amongst any other footwear. So, R'naya just began to canonically have furry/hooved feet for some odd reason...Well, I decided to finally write an explanation for that, and my friend Gabe was a fucking awesome dude for bringing it to life (https://twitter.com/cccshutdown)
This is R'naya in her initial fusion state, when she first channels the primal, story wise sometime around Heavensward. Though her form remains permanently altered, this power remains more or less dormant through Stormblood as she experiments further with Hydaelyn's blessing, however the events of Shadowbringers heavily damages her aetheric balance, her fire aspect soon beginning to grow quite rapidly, resulting in her needing to take multiple breaks and distance herself to allow her primal form to manifest and burn off the excess aether-
At least, I'll be expanding on this definitely, thoughts of her having a more anthro form that she begins to shift into when she needs to release aether. For now, plenty excited to possibly get some normal refs of her showing off her primal legs, given I keep them obscured in game.
