Due to its nature in Reality, it's well known amongst mages that its various spells allows one to temporarily reshape reality itself. When in combat, for example, this can be done in raising barriers of pure magic to protect oneself from unfriendly beings/entities or delivering concussive blasts and bolts of a similar force.
