Secret project becomes less secret....
This is my secret project.
Secret only in that I wanted something solid enough to be sure it was going to work before I let anyone see it...
Its the mould for my first vacuform fursuit mask.
The plan is to make these available for sale as a cheap, easy way to get started in suiting.
The initial one is designed as a simple face mask attached to a fur hood for the head.
This will make up into a close fitting, more realistic style of mask.
Somewhat generic for now; it would make up into nearly any species with a long muzzle.
(Fox, wolf, hyena, badger, etc.)
If this works out, and demand is sufficient, I'll make a short, wide muzzle version suitable for cats, otters, ferrets, mice and the like.
Theres no real facial detail right now- thats the hard part, and comes next.
Since its vacuforming, this has to be designed with no overhangs to grab the mould when the pull is removed.
Details such as wider muzzle sides and such can be added before fur is applied by gluing strips of closed cell foam on and sanding to the desired shape.
I'm planning to use thick, durable styrene on these that will stand up to real use.

Well, theres been folks who wanted to make a fursuit using those cheap animal masks you find at the costume shops-but those are thin, fragile and you just have no material the modify with them.
I was involved in the 501st Imperial stormtroopers costuming group for some time, and wanted to make my own vacuformer for projects.
Go the idea that maybe folks might want a thicker, more durable face mask to build on.
We'll see if it works.
