He wanted to help the party when we were sort of in trouble (in a gaol) so he used the reminder of the potions to make money (he CAN use mage hand, he also writes using his tail and some prestidigitation.) When he was done making money to bail us out of the gaol, he realized that selling potions could be very profitable and he already had the contacts he made during the whole bail-out money gathering adventure... so he opened his little shop. He ran it out of a bag of holding for a long while.
