The original Xbox is my favorite console because it was most like a computer and most open and accessible. It's too bad consoles have taken the opposite direction. I remember when Xbox didn't need to have ads on their dashboard. I just simply can't get into that kind of modern gameplay. Consumer level console-computer interfacing is crucial to preserving personal rights to enjoy personal possessions, at least guaranteed to me under my Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Consoles should not be locked down to "approved" content, this dilutes freedom of culture. Instead, consoles should openly embrace more consumer control as they do have in other operating systems like Windows, where we can run proprietary software or even software we compile ourselves. The direction of console gaming is sometimes furthering the idea that we are slowly losing freedom.
The idea of Jet Set Radio Future is freedom of expression. This game came out 20 years ago. Now we are living in that future, where freedom of expression is at stake to the corporate conglomerates much like the Rokkaku group. Art is cultural freedom of expression, and some of the oldest historical records of culture we have are graffiti in caves by ancient humans. A lot of it is Furry, lol. You cannot consider yourselves free if you've conceded to being controlled and ever bit your tongue on an issue, but then again, not everyone will concede their God given rights to freedom, and will always speak up. "Who dares, wins." These are the people - you are the people who will carry the cultural torch into the next generations, not 6 television companies segmented into thousands of TV channels to create that illusion of freedom and choice. Jet Set Radio Future is the future playing out today. Did the future have an influence on this game in the past? Regardless, the future holds an unlimited amount of possibilities just waiting to happen, just like in the game. It's up to you to play, but this time, you're the star of the show, and the game's about to start.
